Chelsea ‘prioritise’ transfer signing of Leicester’s Chilwell over Ajax’s Tagliafico and Getafe’s Cucurella

CHELSEA are reportedly prioritising the signing of Leicester City star Chilwell over any other left-back.

Goal claimed the Blues are hopeful that the England defender can put pressure on his own club to help kick-start a move to Stamford Bridge.

Leicester City star Ben Chilwell is edging closer to a move to Chelsea this summer

The report adds Frank Lampard remains unwavering in his wish to land Chilwell despite other left-backs being on the market.

Chelsea were thought to be eyeing more cost-effective alternative full-backs should Leicester dig their feet in over Chilwell’s exit.

Barcelona star Marc Cucurella is rumoured to be among their options following his starring loan spell at Getafe.

Chelsea’s shortlist also included Ajax ace Nicolas Tagliafico as well as Porto’s Alex Telles.

The trio would each be available for under £30 million while Chilwell could set the Blues back almost double that amount.

Leicester have publicly insisted the 23-year-old is not for sale and have privately rejected Chelsea’s offer to pay in instalments.

The England International has been at the Foxes since aged 12 and is under contract until 2024.

SunSport previously revealed that the club’s failure to secure Champions League football was the final straw for Chilwell.

He also wants to cement his place as England’s first-choice left-back with the Euros looming and add to his 11 caps so far.

There is a slight chance that Chelsea may suspend their left-back pursuit if they cannot sign Chilwell, and instead keep both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.

Neither defender have been explicitly told they are surplus to requirements despite interest from Juventus and Inter Milan respectively.
