Fulham want Calum Chambers and could land Arsenal ace for £12m to boost survival bid

FULHAM are considering a move to sign Arsenal defender Calum Chambers as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Chambers, 25, had a successful season on loan at Craven Cottage two years ago when he was voted the club’s Player of the Year.

Fulham want to bring Calum Chambers back to Craven Cottage from Arsenal

Now Fulham boss Scott Parker is keen to bring the former England international back on a permanent deal.

Chambers has been sidelined since suffering a ruptured cruciate during his one and only appearance for new Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta last December.

But he is back in training and expects to be ready to return to action by the end of next month.

Chambers cost £12million when he joined Arsenal from Southampton six years ago but has rarely been a first team regular during his time at the Emirates.

And Arsenal are unlikely to stand in the way of his departure as Arteta looks to launch a major squad overhaul this summer.

Fulham would have to pay around £12m for the versatile defender who impressed in a central midfield role when Parker took over from Claudio Ranieri 16 months ago.

The newly-promoted west Londoners are also looking to complete an £8million deal for Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed.

Chambers enjoyed a hugely successful loan at Fulham two years ago

Reed, 25, joined Fulham on loan a year ago and was a key figure in their promotion campaign.

But the club have ruled out another major spending spree after splashing out £110m following promotion from the Championship two years ago.

And director of football Tony Khan has flattened suggestions that they could seek to get former fans favourite Ryan Sessegnon back on loan from Spurs.

England Under-21 wing-back Sessegnon has barely featured for Spurs since his £25m move across London last summer.

But Khan, son of billionaire owner Shahid Khan, said: “I’m not interested in bringing Sessegnon back.

“He already played for us in the Premier League and didn’t do enough to keep us in there and I can’t be in the business of developing other teams’ players.

“We won’t spend £100m again. I expect the squad to look very similar to the one that got promoted because the best players we bought two years ago are still with us.”

Now Fulham must decide what to do with French midfielders Jean Michael Seri and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who have both returned to the Cottage after spending last season out on loan.

The duo cost the club a combined £55m when they were signed two summers ago but were loaned out to reduce the club’’s annual wage bill.
