Southampton confirm £10.8m Mohammed Salisu transfer from Valladolid to bolster defence

SOUTHAMPTON have made quick work of starting their summer transfers by confirming the £10.8million purchase of Mohammed Salisu from Valladolid.

The South Coast club have now splashed out almost £23million in the space of 24 hours.

Southampton have signed Mohammed Salisu from Valladolid for £10.8m

They have already wrapped up the £12m deal to make Walker-Peters a permanent player after his impressive loan spell from Tottenham last season.

Salisu, 21, is currently in the middle of isolation for two weeks having arrived in the UK last week so he can be free to link up for pre-season training next week.

Saints believe they have captured one of the best young centre-backs in Europe with the signing of the Ghanaian as boss Ralph Hasenhuttl starts to overhaul his squad.

Hasenhuttl said: “This is an important signing for us. Mohammed is a player who fits our profile well.

“He is young and has a great amount of potential, but he is also someone who has the qualities to come in and help the team as soon as he is up to speed with our way of playing.

“I like what I have seen of him so far in his games with Valladolid.

“He is strong defensively, he is calm with the ball – something that is important in our team – and he has good speed too.

“I think he will fit in well with us and that this will be a good place for him to develop his game further.

“We have some good centre-backs here and this will be another strong option for us.”
