Give Me A Copper set for Aintree campaign with Becher Chase the first port of call

IMPRESSIVE Badger Beers winner Give Me A Copper is set to tackle the big Aintree fences in the Becher Chase next month.

The five-year-old could bid to give trainer Paul Nicholls a fourth victory in the prestigious 150,000 contest.

Give Me A Copper was an impressive winner of the Badger Beers Chase

Fresh from his bold-jumping, power-packed victory in Wincanton’s seasonal highlight last Saturday, the son of Presenting is sure to face his toughest challenge yet.

A trial for the Grand National, the 3m2f contest is a test of guts and brawn won only by horses with excess stamina and bravery.

Whether owner Sir Alex Ferguson’s contender has what’s needed remains to be seen – but if he does, a tilt at the big one against hat-trick seeking Tiger Roll could be on the agenda.

Harry Derham, assistant trainer to Paul Nicholls, said: “Give Me A Copper has come out of Wincanton in good form.
The Becher Chase fences take some jumping

“It was great to see him get his head in front on his first start of the season.

“He has always been a horse we have liked and were delighted with his performance.

“Paul has indicated that the Becher Chase could now be an intended target, with the Grand National a potential long-term aim.
