DAVID MOYES looks set to return to Everton and replace under-fire boss Marco Silva, according to reports.
The Scot, 56, spent 11 years in charge at Goodison Park and built up a strong reputation on Merseyside before his departure in 2013.
Already under pressure, the troubles mounted on Silva this weekend when his side lost 2-0 at home to bottom-side Norwich to leave the club languishing in 15th, four points clear of the drop zone.
Toffees supporters joined in with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” and vented their anger at owner Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright.
According to the Mirror, Silva met with Moshiri on Saturday evening and the owner handed the Portuguese a temporary lifeline by wanting to keep his man in charge for Everton’s next game, away at Leicester on Sunday.
But it is understood others within Goodison are less patient and believe there is no time to waste with matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Leicester in the Carabao Cup and Arsenal to follow the trip to the King Power.
Moshiri met with the board on Sunday to discuss the plan and many reckon Silva’s departure is now a matter of when, not if.
His fate could be sealed as early as today with the former Hull and Watford boss set to talk with Moshiri again.
Moyes knows the club incredibly well after his successful spell between 2002 and 2013, when he was chosen to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
He won the LMA Manager of the Year in 2003, 2005 and 2009, regularly getting the Toffees into Europe, and has a good relationship with the club and fans.
Things did not go to plan for Moyes at United, Real Sociedad or Sunderland.
But the job he did at West Ham in the 2017/18 season would be similar to the one asked of him back on Merseyside – he took over with the Hammers in the bottom three and they finished 13th, 11 points clear of relegation.
Moyes still lives in Preston and is thought to be keen to head back to Goodison should he be offered the job.
A short-term contract is the most likely option for the manager who has been out of work since leaving the London Stadium 18 months ago but he is certainly the absolute favourite to take over should Moshiri wield the axe.
