Around 420 members of staff were gifted a free lunch

Using the run-up to Christmas to say thank you, he paid for pizzas to be delivered to 13 different locations across his native Germany.

Rudiger, 27, selected cities and regions with high infection rates particularly in East Germany.

He also supplied the Vivantes Clinic in Neukolln where he grew up.

As reported by DFB, Rudiger said: “Of course I also heard in London through the news and through friends and family how the corona situation at home has clearly deteriorated again in recent weeks.

“That is really tragic. The people who work in the corona intensive care units are currently doing a great job. For me, these are all women and men of honour.

The Chelsea star wanted to show his appreciation

“These people cannot be thanked enough for all their services in this very difficult time.

“For the common good, they put their own health on top of things – that deserves the greatest respect.

“After the food deliveries, some doctors and nurses from the various hospitals also contacted me via Instagram and thanked me again – that makes you particularly happy.”
