Logan Paul has more chance of beating Floyd Mayweather than UFC star Conor McGregor did, ex-opponent Victor Ortiz says

FLOYD MAYWEATHER’S former opponent Victor Ortiz believes Logan Paul has more chance of beating the legend than Conor McGregor did.

Mayweather retired as a pro in 2017, after stopping ex-UFC champion McGregor in ten rounds.

But he will come out of retirement in February aged 43, facing YouTuber Paul in an exhibition bout.

Despite Paul having fought only once as a pro, losing to internet rival KSI in 2019, Ortiz reckons the boxing beginner is better equipped to upset Mayweather than McGregor was.

He told MMAFighting: “Conor couldn’t do nothing.

“I don’t mean to speak bad. Conor’s a heck of a UFC fighter in the octagon, but he has no business in a ring, as opposed to someone like Logan – Logan learned in a ring.

“So his stuff is all standup. Everything about Logan is boxing, angles, moving, so it’s two different worlds.

“I couldn’t tell you what someone like Logan or myself could do in an octagon, but stick to what you know.

“And Logan, he knows boxing right now.”

Ortiz has a special insight of Mayweather, having fought but lost to the American great in 2011.

And the former welterweight champion is a good friend of Paul’s having filmed a skit with the social media phenomenon before.

Ortiz has helped the 25-year-old prepare for mission impossible – becoming the first man to defeat Mayweather.

But despite Paul’s farcical skill and experience disparity, he does have a FOUR STONE and six inch advantage.

And even though the odds stacked against him like never before, he has the full backing of Ortiz.

He said: “He’s a dear friend, and I believe in him. I’m telling you, it’s going to be an interesting fight.

“I’ve talked to him about Floyd a few times. I give him the simple things: ‘Floyd is Floyd, but you’re unstoppable. You’re on another level.’

“I strongly believe Floyd will have trouble. Logan can box, and he has power, reach speed, and he can move now.”

“I can absolutely see 110 per cent why they would be upset. I can agree to a certain extent. But honestly, realistically, today’s society is about numbers.

“You can be one heck of a boxer, but if you’re not putting butts in seats, you ain’t getting paid.”

With Ortiz having witnessed Paul and Mayweather up close, the 33-year-old backs his man as the harder-hitter.

He revealed: “From what I see at the gym, I can honestly say Logan can probably hit harder.

“Now, who’s more accurate? We’ll see February 20.”
