Eddie Hearn wants Anthony Joshua and Tyson’s second clash in Cardiff but ‘a lot of pressure’ coming from abroad

EDDIE HEARN wants the second super fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to take place in Cardiff.

But the boxing promoter admits there is plenty of pressure to stage the hugely anticipated British heavyweight showdowns abroad.

Joshua and Fury have agreed a two-fight deal for one of the biggest heavyweight contests in boxing history.

The first fight is set to take place overseas this summer with the rematch expected towards the end of the year.

Hearn, who hopes to stage the second fight in the UK, told Boxing Scene: “At the moment as a country we have got better things to spend our money on than a major sporting event.

“We will be under a lot of pressure for that fight not to be in the UK but I don’t want both of them to be outside the UK if I can at all help it.”

With the rematch expected to take place in November or December, the fight would need to be under a roof in the winter which opens the door to using the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Joshua last fought at the stadium in 2018 when he defeated Joseph Parker on points.

It seems inevitable the first blockbuster fight will go abroad despite the clamour to stage the huge world heavyweight contest in the UK.

Hearn said: “We’ve had conversations with Australia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Eastern Europe, America.

“We’ve had so many approaches in the past about so many different fights. Generally, half of them are real and half are someone who’s trying to spin some commission.

“That’s why I want to get into a position where we can go out collectively to talk to these people once a deal is in place.

“I think the Middle East will be very aggressive and will be frontrunners in this.

“But we’ve had a lot of other interesting approaches from territories that we might not have thought were players in this fight but I believe they are.”
