THIS is the astonishing moment a jockey nicknamed ‘striker’ WHIPS a rival four times during a brutal mid-race attack.
Famed South African rider Piere Strydom, 54, saw red when rival Muzi Yeni barged into him.
Yeni’s mount Netta, an 8-1 chance, started veering to its left with the finish line in sight, hampering Strydom’s 18-1 shot Fort Anne in the process.
Seemingly losing control of his horse, Yeni keeps veering across and that is when Strydom lashes out.
The video appears to show Strydom strike Yeni at least four times with his whip.
Amazingly, Yeni actually won the race on Netta but the result was reversed and Strydom awarded the win.
That was because judges decided Yeni’s horse had interfered with Strydom’s ride, affecting the result.
Yeni said he had been banned for ten days due to careless riding in the incident.
Six-time South African champion jockey Strydom faces a three-month ban for his attack – although the official race report from the contest at Vaal has yet to be released.
Yeni was banned for three months in 2019 after grabbing a rival during a race.
He said he hopes Strydom – who has ridden more than 5,000 winners during his illustrious career – gets the same punishment.
The jockey said: “I also got the maximum three months for removing my hands from the reins in another incident.
“I hope that consistency will be applied in the process when Mr Strydom faces an enquiry.”
This flashpoint is the latest in a long line of amazing jockey bust-ups.
