Wozniacki has posted before about enjoying “wife life”

The Dane, a former girlfriend of Rory McIlroy, plans to hang up her racket after the event in Melbourne in January and February.

And a statement released on Friday revealed her desire to start a family with former NBA champion husband David Lee.

The sporting couple’s whirlwind romance was made public in early 2017 before an engagement that November and stunning Tuscan wedding in June of this year.

Wozniacki, 29, said: Ive always told myself, when the time comes, that there are things away from tennis that I want to do more, then its time to be done.

In recent months, Ive realised that there is a lot more in life that Id like to accomplish off the court.

Getting married to David was one of those goals and starting a family with him while continuing to travel the world and helping raise awareness about rheumatoid arthritis (project upcoming) are all passions of mine moving forward.

So with that, Im announcing that I will be retiring from professional tennis after the Australian Open in January.

This has nothing to do with my health and this isnt a goodbye. I look forward to sharing my exciting journey ahead with all of you!

Wozniacki was often considered an unfulfilled talent until she beat Romanian Simona Halep 7-6 3-6 6-4 to win the Australian Open in 2018.

She said: Ive played professionally since I was 15 years old.

In that time Ive experienced an amazing first chapter of my life.

With 30 WTA singles titles, a world No.1 ranking for 71 weeks, a WTA Finals victory, three Olympics, including carrying the flag for my native Denmark, and winning the Australian Open, Ive accomplished everything I could ever dream of on the court.
