Solskjaer meets Man Utd top transfer target Erling Haaland in Salzburg

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER met top Manchester United transfer target Erling Haaland in Austria.

Old Trafford chiefs hope to tie up a deal for the 80million-rated striker next month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had talks with Manchester United transfer target Erling Haaland

Solskjaer, who managed Haaland when he was boss at Norwegian club Molde, spoke to the 19-year-old RB Salzburg striker in the Austrian city on Friday.

It is believed the club could sell their star man now that they are out of the Champions League.

The player’s father, former Manchester City and Leeds midfielder Alf-Inge Haaland, said: “I hope you understand that I cannot comment on all the rumours that are going on at the moment.”

The forward, who has hit a stunning 24 goals in 22 games this season, is also said to be in talks with German club Borussia Dortmund.

United, who spent over 150m in the last transfer window in centre-back Harry Maguire, right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and winger Dan James, are targeting two central midfielders and a striker in 2020, according to the Daily Mail.

Solskjaer said after the 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League: “Targets that we’re looking at, they’re long-term targets.

“If there’s something popping up that might be as a short-term, maybe. But we’re always thinking long term.

“January is always a difficult one. We’re always on the lookout.”

United’s interest in midfielders also raises question marks over the future of Paul Pogba.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are both chasing the France World Cup winner, but United are understood to be looking for 180m for the 26-year-old.
