Chelsea no closer to James and Abraham deals despite new contracts for Hudson-Odoi and Mount

CHELSEA are struggling to secure long-term deals for Tammy Abraham and Reece James despite their impressive breakthrough seasons, according to reports.

Boss Frank Lampard is keen to give his academy stars new contracts which has already seen Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount put pen-to-paper.

Chelsea want Tammy Abraham to sign a new deal

Midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and 18-year-old Billy Gilmour have also penned new deals to extend their stay at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham, 22, has enjoyed a terrific start to the season in his step up to Premier League football having scored 11 goals in 16 league appearances.

The England striker has also broken into the international set-up while becoming Lampard’s first choice to lead the line.

James, 20, has also benefitted from Lampard’s management and made his first team debut for the Blues in September in a Carabao Cup win over Grimsby.

He then became Chelsea’s youngest ever Champions League scorer when he bagged the fourth in their 4-4 draw with Ajax in November.

The Telegraph write how both players have contracts until the summer of 2022 but the club are no closer to tying their futures down.

One small issue facing Chelsea is that they set the benchmark when they offered Hudson-Odoi 120,000-a-week to stay at the club following interest from Bayern Munich.

Abraham in particular believes he deserves a similar figure after his goalscoring start to the season.

He currently pockets around 50,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
