Amir Khan and Kell Brook close to FINALLY agreeing deal for February fight with Manchester set to host grudge match

, Amir Khan and Kell Brook close to FINALLY agreeing deal for February fight with Manchester set to host grudge match

LONG-TIME rivals Amir Khan and Kell Brook are reportedly edging closer towards agreeing a deal for a February fight to finally settle their bad blood.

Khan and Brook have been at each other’s throats for years, with the bout a DECADE in the making after failing to ever agree terms.

Khan had hoped for a fight to be officially announced earlier this month, and although an agreement is close it is yet to be announced
Brook (L) has won 39 and lost three of his 42 bouts, while Khan has won 34 and lost five

Manchester is likely to be the venue for the hotly anticipated clash as talks near completion, according to the Daily Star.

The pair are yet to decide on how the purse will be split, as well as other contract issues.

However there are not thought to be any significant stumbling blocks left to negotiate.

The only danger to the fight going ahead is the stubbornness of both fighters over terms – something fans have got used to during their simmering rivalry.

If a fight is agreed then February 19th is the expected date for an all-English affair at welterweight or a catch-weight below light-middleweight.

And it’s expected to be picked up for pay-per-view as British boxing fans finally get the fight they’ve been clamouring for, despite both men being in the twilight of their careers.

Khan and Brook are both nearing retirement and would reportedly only get back in the ring if it was against each other.

That’s against the wishes of promoter Eddie Hearn, who was eager for Khan to take on Conor Benn.

Both fighters are contractual free agents so have been directly negotiating with each other, pitching the fight to different promotors and networks.

The fight comes five years later than most fans wanted but is a chance for both men to finally settle the score after years of verbal back-and-forth.

Neither Khan, 34, or Brook, 35, have fought in 2021.

Bolton-born Khan hasn’t tasted action for more than two years since beating Billy Dibb in July 2019.

Brook meanwhile lost via TKO to American Terence Crawford the last time he entered the ring in November of 2020.

Khan revealed earlier this month nothing had been agreed as of yet, but he hoped a deal could be finalised soon.

He told talkSPORT: “Contracts are still going back and forth, so I’m not sure how he’s signed when we’re both waiting?

“Hopefully something gets finalised this week.”
