Amir Khan calls Daniel Kinahan ‘one of the nicest guys I’ve met’ as he praises impact mob boss has had on boxing

AMIR KHAN has called Daniel Kinahan ‘one of the nicest guys I’ve met’ as he hailed the impact he’s had on boxing.

The Olympic silver medallist believes Kinahan has been a force for good in the sport despite him being the subject of an investigative documentary by the BBC.

Khan tweeted this in response to Kinahan’s statement to Talksport

He said: “I’ve known Daniel for sometime, I have huge respect for what he’s doing for boxing.

“We need people like Dan to keep the sport alive. One of the nicest guys I’ve met.”

Khan was responding to Kinahan sharing a lengthy statement today via Talksport.

In it, Kinahan rejected any involvement in one of the BBC’s team being sent a death threat after the programme went to air.

NOTHING TO DO WITH IT

He said: “Last week it was inferred that I had threatened a reporter. Let me be clear on this point before I address the other allegations against me.

“I have full respect for journalism. I have worked with journalists and I value their role.

“Journalists should always be free to do their job, free from any threat or harassment.

“I have never threatened a reporter or journalist or asked anyone to do that for me. I never have and I never would.”

REMAINS A KEY PLAYER

Kinahan, who has no criminal convictions but has been named in the Dublin High Court as a controller and manager of a crime cartel, also confirmed he is still actively organising world title fights.

This was at odds with his previous declaration that he had stepped away from the sport in the wake of the furore of Tyson Fury thanking him on social media for getting his upcoming superfight with Anthony Joshua ‘over the line.’

He said: “I am proud to say today that I have helped organise over a dozen major world title fights.

“I continue to be involved in planning multiple record-breaking and exciting world title fights: I’m doing all I can to give fight fans around the world the fights they want.”
