AMIR KHAN’S cousin has made a winning start to life as a professional boxer with victory on a strange cryptocurrency show in Dubai.

Abdul Khan, 19, beat Gurjant Singh on the Crypto Fight Night card at La Perle on Saturday, an event staged to showcase Dubai’s blockchain technology.

And, according to Bolton News, Khan lived up to his family name by securing the victory having trained with cousin Amir in the lead-up to his debut.

Speaking after the fight, Abdul said: “Mashallah/Alhamdulilah. Pro debut last night we went 1-0-0 with the mercy of Allah.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to my team, my coaches & my mother for the continued support.

“Thank you to my sponsors for there support @adidas @adidasboxing @combatsportsgcc. Thank you to every single one of you for the love, support & messages. I appreciate you all from bottom of my heart. Let’s Goooo!”

And Amir added: “The champs debut fight in Dubai. Great performance @AbdulKhanbxr, on to the next challenge.

“Amazing turn out at the Harbour La Perle, well done to heavyweight @WBCBoxing Middle East Champion, all the boxers and crypto fighters.

Meanwhile, two-weight world champion and Olympic silver medallist Amir has not fought since July 2019.

The 34-year-old has been waiting for the right opponent as he enters the final stages of his career.

A clash with Kell Brook has been talked about for the best part of a decade, but promotional and financial issues have meant it has never taken place.

And Khan recently claimed Brook is using the catchweight of the fight as a stumbling block.

He said: “Kell said he would fight at 147lbs. I agreed. Now Kell wants 149lbs. Then he wants 149.5lbs.

“Is he even serious about wanting the fight?”
