Anthony Joshua is in a ‘MESS’ right now and suffering ‘turbulence’ in his career, says former boxer

AUDLEY HARRISON said Anthony Joshua is in a “MESS” right now and suffering “turbulence” after another coaching switch.

Joshua parted ways with longtime cornerman Rob McCracken following defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021.

And for the Saudi Arabia rematch last August, he hired American Robert Garcia but again it ended in a points loss.

And when AJ returned against Jermaine Franklin in April, he did so after relocating to Dallas with esteemed trainer Derrick James.

And despite comfortably beating Franklin over 12 rounds, Harrison questioned how long the partnership will last.

He told Sky Sports: “There’s a lesson to be learnt in his mess right now, as you can call it.

“The Rob McCracken situation – he lost to Ruiz, he fixed that, came back, got the win.

“Then he lost again, so now he’s trying to find the right trainer. He tried Garcia, he’s with Derrick James right now.

“We can see that turbulence of him trying to figure it out. He hasn’t figured it out right now. It’s not complete.

“I think Derrick James is probably not going to be the final result.”

Joshua, 33, bounced back with his first victory in three years but only after admitting money is still his motivation.

But Harrison warned that mindset could be a recipe for disaster.

He said: “You know, he’s made so much money, and I heard him do an interview saying he’s in it for the money.

“At this stage, when you’ve made that much money, the only thing keeping you going is the glory isn’t it?

“We don’t wake up for the money, we wake up for the glory. That’s what got him to the Olympics and to fight for world titles.

“The money is just a side thing. So if he’s lost that hunger to chase the glory, it will be hard, because he needs to be thinking of defining his legacy by turning back that loss.

“That needs to be his goal and what his drive should be. He can’t think about needing to prove people wrong.

“You can’t do it for the critics, you have to do it for yourself. He has to. He has to want to get back to the top and win a world title for him.

“I think he can if he really wants to do it for him. If he thinks of his legacy and wanting to be a Hall-of-Famer.

“He has to go back to that. He can’t do it for money, he’s got enough money already.

“His motivation has to be: ‘I want greatness for myself,’ and ‘I want to undo the damage and get revenge on that guy.’ That’s all it has to be about.

“When Lennox [Lewis] lost to Hasim Rahman, all he cared about was revenge. As fighters, that’s all you need to back you, revenge.”

How to effectively box

Boxing is a popular sport. It is made up of two competitors who aim to knock the head off each other. Different countries have different rules. There are generally three types of boxing: Amateur, Professional, and Olympic.

Amateur boxing is often practiced at school, college, or university. This type of boxing allows sparring without protection. Amateur boxing competitions usually last three rounds and last five minutes each. There are many styles of amateur boxing such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Karate, Judo and Wrestling, among others.

Boxing is often practiced in gyms or clubs. They are protected by protective equipment like a mouthpiece, nose protector, shinguards, elbow pads and knee pads, waist belt, and groin protection. Professional boxing competitions have six rounds that last four minutes each. There are many styles of professional boxing: Boxing, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), Kickboxing and Muay Thai.

Olympic boxing is practiced at the Olympics. International standards require that boxers use special protective gear. The competition lasts for eight rounds, each lasting three minutes. Olympic boxing can be divided into two types: Light Flyweight (Heavyweight) and Heavyweight (Light Flyweight).

Boxing is based on the following skills:

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Move your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Sparring

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches require more force than others. A strong uppercut for example requires a lot of force. However, a straight punch is much more powerful and faster than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations which combine several punches in order to achieve a specific goal. A combination may contain several parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

A boxer must use his legs to defend against kicks. When he’s hit, he raises his right leg and runs away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked on his side, he will bend his knees if the attack is from the front. However, if the attack comes from behind, he stands up straight and blocks the kick with his foot.

Elbows

Because they cause great pain, elbow strikes are extremely effective. You can deliver an elbow strike directly or indirectly. Directly refers to hitting your opponent with the forearm, while indirect means you hit him using another part of your arms.

Hands

Boxers use both their hands and arms to prevent incoming blows. They raise their fists high above their heads and point them in the direction of an attack. Then they make contact with the attacker’s fist.

Knees

Boxers should bend their knees when receiving blows to the abdomen, stomach, or chest. For defense purposes, knee strikes are common.

Feet

A boxer should take control of an attack and respond with counter-attacks. This way, he can gain distance between himself and his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

Boxing is only possible if a boxer has a clear stance. His stance determines how he defends himself. It dictates how he places his body and faces his opponent. Boxers can take many different stances. These are some of our most favorite:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

A boxer must be able to move around his opponent in order to win a fight. This requires changing your position, speed, and rhythm.

Rotation

A boxer will rotate his arm when he is throwing a punch. You can rotate at different speeds depending upon the punch.

Combinations

The timing of each punch will determine the effectiveness and efficiency of a combination. A combination that is effective starts with a strong punch, and ends with one that is weak.

Spare parts

Sparring is a practice session designed to improve boxing skills . During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. In conclusion, the purpose of sparring is to learn how to fight and not get hurt.

It is important to be patient and dedicated when learning how to box. To become a better fighter, you have to train hard and continue to work.
