After the first, in September 2021, Joshua parted ways with long-time cornerman Rob McCracken, who led him to gold in the amateurs and pros.

He replaced McCracken with esteemed US mastermind Robert Garcia, but following rematch defeat to Usyk the two have split.

Now Joshua is trailing new coaches and boxing great Roy Jones Jr – currently Chris Eubank Jr’s trainer – has thrown his name into the hat.

Jones, 53, told Boxing Social: “We spoke and I do have a plan for him.

“I haven’t told him yet, but if he likes the way that we get along in the gym, then for me, any fighter he fights is going to be a big fight anyway.

“But, you got to go with guys who are not quite as good as Usyk or Tyson Fury yet.

“We need two good fights to get yourself back into motion and they’ll be good fights, they won’t be no stroll fights they’ll be good fights.

“Then we go after either Usyk or Fury, whoever wins, but we do need two good fights to get him back and I already got two fights in my mind that I want, but I’ve got to talk to him and make sure that he is in agreement.”

How to box effectively

Boxing is one the most well-known sports in the world. It consists of two opponents who try to knock out each other’s head. The rules of boxing vary from country to country. There are three main types of boxing: Amateur boxing, Professional boxing, and Olympic boxing.

Amateur boxing usually takes place at school, college and university. This type includes sparring sessions using padded gloves, but without protection. Amateur boxing contests are usually three rounds in length, lasting five minutes each. There are many styles to amateur boxing like Kickboxing. Muay Thai. Taekwondo. Karate. Judo. Wrestling.

Boxing professionals are usually trained in clubs, gyms, or stadiums. They wear protective equipment such as mouthpiece, nose guard, shin guards, elbow pads, knee pads, waist belt and groin protector. Professional boxing competitions include six rounds of four minutes each. There are many styles of professional boxing: Boxing, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), Kickboxing and Muay Thai.

Olympic boxing is done at the Olympics. International standards require that boxers use special protective gear. The competition lasts for eight rounds, each lasting three minutes. Olympic boxing is limited to two styles: Light Flyweight and Heavyweight.

The basics of boxing are:

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Moving your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Sparring

Punching Techniques

There are seven types: Left Hook (right hook), Right Hook (uppercut), Cross (cross), Straight, Overhand, Underhand. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches are more powerful than others. For example, an uppercut is a powerful punch. However, a straight punch is much more powerful and faster than other punches.

There are many combinations of punches. These are combinations made up of several punches that can be used together to achieve one goal. A combination may contain several parts. A combination may include multiple parts. For example, damage to the jaw of an opponent can be caused by a left hook and a right cross.

Guard Techniques

To defend himself from being attacked, a boxer uses his entire body. He does this by using his legs.

Legs

A boxer must use his legs to defend against kicks. He raises his leg when he is hit with a kick and then moves away from the opponent. If the attacker is coming from the front, he will bend at the knees to avoid getting kicked on either side. But if the attack comes in the back, he will stand straight and block the kick using his foot.

Elbows

Because they inflict pain, elbow strikes can be very effective. An elbow strike may be delivered directly or in an indirect manner. Directly means you hit your opponent directly with your forearm. While indirectly, it means you hit him with another section of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use both their hands and arms to prevent incoming blows. To do this, they raise their fists higher than their heads and move their arms in the direction that the attack is coming. The attacker’s fist is then in their face.

Knees

Boxers who are subject to a punch to their stomachs, abdomens, or chests should bend at the knees to absorb the impact. For defense purposes, knee strikes are common.

Feet

A boxer should take control of an attack and respond with counter-attacks. This way, he can gain distance between himself and his opponent. In addition, when delivering a counter-attack, a boxer should keep his balance.

Stances

Boxing effectively requires a boxer to have a good stance. His stance will determine how he defends. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. There are many positions that boxers can adopt. These are the most popular:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

The Body Movement

Boxers must maneuver around their opponent to win fights. This includes changing speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

Rotating his arm to increase the puncher’s reach is a key part of boxing. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Combinations

The effectiveness of a combination depends on the timing of each individual punch. A combination that is effective starts with a strong punch, and ends with one that is weak.

Sparring

Sparring is an exercise session to improve boxing skills. Boxers learn to train their mind and bodies during sparring sessions. Sparring, in conclusion, is about learning how to fight and not getting hurt.

To sum it all, boxing requires patience and dedication. You need to train hard and long in order to become a better boxer.
