Anthony Joshua will NOT fight this year as promoter Eddie Hearn reveals target date for boxing return in 2023

ANTHONY JOSHUA will not fight this year as Eddie Hearn revealed when the heavyweight will likely return.

The former unified champion faces a rebuilding job following consecutive losses to Ukrainian great Oleksandr Usyk.

Promoter Eddie Hearn with Anthony Joshua

AJ’s promoter Hearn had earmarked December 17 as a potential return date after talks to fight Tyson Fury two weeks earlier collapsed.

But now Joshua is expected to return in early 2023, to set up a busy year in the ring.

Hearn told FightHub: “Joshua will be back very early next year now and I wanna see him get active.”

Recently, Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin, 31, and American veteran Chris Arreola, 41, emerged as potential options for AJ.

A rematch with Dillian Whyte, 34, who Joshua knocked out in 2015, is also on the cards for the summer.

Fury, 34, called out AJ after Usyk, 35, ruled himself out of a unification bout through injury.

But he instead fights Derek Chisora, 38, in an unpopular trilogy on December 3 following his prior one-sided wins in 2011 and 2014.

Fury now fears a super-fight with Joshua, 33, will NEVER happen, claiming his rival is too tough to negotiate with.

He said: “At least I’ve got this to show for all the time I wasted on that big dosser of a coward.

“The fight didn’t happen because they didn’t want it. After the first seven days of discussions they never had any intentions of it taking place.

“Joshua realised how daunting the task was and he got talked out of it by his people and himself.

“If that wasn’t the reason, he’d be here now instead of Derek. He doesn’t have any belts.

“He doesn’t have anything I need and there will not be a fight between him and me ever. Ever.

“There was just too much messing about. I’m not going through that all over again.

“They’re too hard to deal with. No more wasting time with idiots. I’m going to tell you what I told his promoter Eddie Hearn.

“That the difference between me and his man is that his man is a businessman and I’m an effing Spartan.”

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Moving your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spares

Punching Techniques

There are seven types of punches available: Left Hook and Right Hook, Cross, Cross, Straight, Underhand, Overhand, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, and Overhand. Each punch is unique. Some punches require greater strength than others. An example of this is an uppercut, which requires tremendous force. On the contrary, a straight punch takes less power but is faster than most punches.

There are also many combinations. These are combinations which combine several punches in order to achieve a specific goal. A combination can contain multiple parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers should use the legs to protect themselves against kicks. After receiving a kick, he will raise his leg and move away from the attacker. If the attacker is coming from the front, he will bend at the knees to avoid getting kicked on either side. But if the attack comes in the back, he will stand straight and block the kick using his foot.

Elbows

Because they cause great pain, elbow strikes are extremely effective. An elbow strike can be delivered directly or indirectly. Directly refers to hitting your opponent with the forearm, while indirect means you hit him using another part of your arms.

Hands

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. Boxers use their hands to stop incoming punches. They raise their fists up above their heads and move towards the attack. Then they make contact with the attacker’s fist.

Knees

Boxers should bend their knees when receiving blows to the abdomen, stomach, or chest. For defense purposes, knee strikes are common.

Feet

A boxer should take control of an attack and respond with counter-attacks. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

In order to box effectively, a boxer needs to establish a stance. His stance will determine how he defends. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. Boxers have many stances to choose from. These are some of our most favorite:

  • A low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

A boxer must change his position, speed and rhythm in order to win the fight. This involves changing position, speed and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. The rotation is done at different speeds depending on the type of punch.

Combinations

The timing of each individual punch affects the effectiveness or failure of a combination. A combination is good if it starts with a strong punch then ends with a weaker one.

Spare parts

Sparring is a form of boxing that aims to improve your skills. During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. In conclusion, the purpose of sparring is to learn how to fight and not get hurt.

To sum it all, boxing requires patience and dedication. You need to train hard and long in order to become a better boxer.
