Anthony Joshua’s new coach vows to do ‘whatever it takes’ to make Brit dethrone Usyk and become a three-time HW champ

ROBERT GARCIA insists he’ll do everything in his power to make Anthony Joshua a three-time heavyweight champion.

The American coach has been brought in to mastermind victory in Joshua’s high-stakes rematch with Oleksandr Usyk following the axing of former long-time trainer Robert McCracken.

AJ has brought in renowned American coach Robert Garcia to prepare him for Usyk

And Garcia is hellbent on making AJ a three-time heavyweight champion

Garcia has guided a whopping 14 fighters to championships but has yet to lead a heavyweight to a world title – a challenge he’s very much relishing

In an interview with Little Giant Boxing, the 47-year-old said: “I love that challenge.

“Especially coming off a loss and getting the rematch against a guy that beat him. It’s a great challenge for me.

“I understand it’s not going to be easy. I’m gonna do whatever it takes to get Anthony to become champion again.”

Like Joshua, Garcia is being driven by those predicting AJ’s second showdown with Usyk will be a repeat of their Tottenham tussle last September.

He continued: “That’s the thing that motivates me the most: after coming off a loss where people don’t expect him to win. Those are the challenges that I love.

“Like when [Marcos] Maidana beat [Adrien Broner or Abner Mares beat [Jesus] Cuellar or Steve Luevano who travelled to London to fight Nicky Cook and knocked him out in the 11th round where nobody expected that to happen.”

Should he successfully mastermind the first defeat of Usyk’s professional career, Garcia will rank the triumph among the biggest achievements of his hall-of-fame-destined career.

He said: “Those are the challenges that I like and right now Anthony Joshua is that challenge.

“He lost. He didn’t take a beating. He lost a decision. But he lost. Clearly lost.

“Now to pull off the win it would be huge for me, man.

“It would be huge for me as a trainer having the heavyweight champion of the world. Can’t get any better than that.”

Joshua and Usyk, 32 and 35 respectively, were supposed to renew their rivalry on July 23 but have been forced to postpone their Saudi showdown due to broadcasting rights issues.

August 20 is understood to be the new targeted date, although August 13 is still very much an option.
