Detained as a Suspected Fugitive
A British bare-knuckle boxer, Derek "Decca" Heggie, is set to be deported back to the UK from the Philippines after being detained as a suspected fugitive. Authorities uncovered details of Heggie's alleged criminal past, leading to his arrest.
Tearful Farewell Video
Heggie, originally from Montrose in Angus, Scotland, appeared on TV alongside a US criminal as it was announced that he would be expelled from the country. Before being placed behind bars, the fighter was allowed to make a final video for his followers on YouTube, expressing his emotions and stating that he hopes to be released soon.
A Turbulent Life
Heggie has faced various challenges in his life, including a ten-year battle with drug addiction and mental health issues. He gained some fame as an actor in the gangster film "The Corrupted," but it was in bare-knuckle fighting that he made most of his money. Heggie became a British champion and earned thousands of pounds from his fights, many of which were organized by the traveling community.
The Philippine Bureau of Immigration claims that Heggie is a wanted fugitive in the UK but no approach has been made by the British government regarding his case. A source in the UK stated that the information from the Philippines does not match Heggie's record in the UK. It is possible that he is being deported as an "undesirable" rather than as a wanted criminal.
Heggie is currently being held in Mandaue City but will be transferred to a warden facility in Taguig City. Commissioner Norman Tansingco confirmed that Heggie and the American criminal with him will be included in the immigration blacklist to prevent them from re-entering the country.
As the deportation process continues, Heggie's future remains uncertain. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
