Canelo Alvarez Fights Through Pain and Vows to Return to Greatness After Surgery

The Mexican boxing superstar opens up about battling injury

Canelo Alvarez has revealed the brutal pain he endured while fighting with an injured hand, but he remains determined to return to greatness. The problem with his left hand has plagued him since late 2021, when he became the undisputed super-middleweight champion. Despite the injury, Canelo continued to fight in 2022, suffering a defeat to Dmitry Bivol and later securing victory over Gennady Golovkin. It was only after his trilogy bout with GGG that he finally underwent surgery. Even in his recent fights, he had to push through the excruciating pain of his busted hand.

Rehab and Recovery

In a recent interview, Canelo admitted that he was unable to train at full capacity due to the pain in his hand. He stated, "I was not able to train 100 per cent with my hand and do everything in the gym. It was bad pain. It is what it is." However, now that he has fully recovered and regained his confidence, he is ready to showcase his skills once again.

Ready to Let His Hands Do the Talking

Canelo acknowledged that his previous fights may not have been his best performances, attributing it to his injury. However, now that he feels great and is able to train at full capacity, he believes he will deliver a different performance in his upcoming fight.

He said, "I don’t want to say, ‘This is going to be different.’ You will see in the fight." Canelo is set to defend his 168lb crown against Jermell Charlo on Saturday night in an undisputed title fight. This historic matchup will be the first time two current undisputed champions have shared the ring.

Seeking Redemption and Making History

Canelo sees this fight as an opportunity to prove himself and make history. He is motivated by Charlo's previous trash talk and lack of belief in his skills. He stated, "Right now, I’m able to show him my skills and why I’m here. That motivates me." Canelo is passionate about boxing and enjoys being in training camp, making his routine something he truly cherishes.

As Canelo prepares to step into the ring once again, fans and critics alike are eager to see if he can reclaim his greatness and prove his doubters wrong.
