Canelo Alvarez, Pound-for-Pound Great, Eyeing UK Debut

Boxing legend Canelo Alvarez is considering a massive fight in the capital for his first-ever UK debut. Despite never competing outside of Mexico or America, Canelo has defeated all eight of his English opponents who have challenged him. Now, the legendary fighter is looking to add to his legacy by crossing into enemy territory.

Exclusive Interview: Canelo's Ambitions for the UK

In an exclusive interview with SunSport, Canelo expressed his desire to fight in London, saying, "I am thinking about one day fighting in London, yes. I'd love to go to London. But the opponent? I don't even think about it yet."

Canelo's Retirement Plans

The father-of-four and avid golfer has been open about retiring before his 40th birthday. As a four-division champion and the world's highest-paid fighter, Canelo still finds motivation to strive for more victories. "I always say 37 or 38 is a good number (to retire on)," he shared. "Just still win fights, still be in these big fights that motivate me. There's always something there to achieve, keep winning and that's it."

Climbing Through the Weights

Canelo has taken on challenges in various weight divisions throughout his career. Starting with the 154lb light-middleweight division, he even claimed the WBO light-heavyweight title at 175lb in 2019. However, a loss to Dmitry Bivol in that division led him back to the super-middleweight category. Currently reigning as the 168lb champion with all four titles, Canelo is ready for a historic matchup against Jermell Charlo.

Historic Battle: Canelo vs. Charlo

Canelo's next fight sees him facing Jermell Charlo, who will be moving up two weights for the highly-anticipated showdown. Charlo also holds all four belts at 154lb, making it the first time two fully unified champions will share the ring. Canelo commented on the upcoming fight, saying, "I expect the best from him. He has everything, but I've fought with everybody out there and I have the experience to adapt myself to every style. I think it's going to be a good fight."
