MEXICAN boxer Canelo Alvarez has turned down fighting Dmitry Bivol in a catchweight contest, promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed.
The pair will instead go toe-to-toe at the usual 175lb limit for light heavyweights.
The catchweight, which is a limit different to traditional weight classes agreed to by both fighters, was offered at 171lb.
However, Hearn revealed while speaking to DAZN that Alvarez, 31, had no interested in accepting those terms.
He said: “Canelo could’ve had a catchweight real easy.
“Bivol would’ve accepted anything 171lbs-plus.

“Canelo and Eddy (Reynoso, his trainer) said, ‘No catchweight. If this is for the 175lb world title, that’s the way it’s going to be.’”
“And a rehydration clause doesn’t exist.”
Multiple world champion looked bulkier in a recent training video as he tunes up for his bid a second light-heavyweight belt.
He beat Sergey Kovalev at that weight in 2019, but gave up his title to return to super-middleweight where he beat Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant last year.
The bout against Bovil is set to take place on May 7 in Las Vegas with the Russian boxer defending his WBA (Super) light heavyweight title.
He is undefeated but faces the world’s pound-for-pound king in Alvarez who has only lost one fight in his professional career, versus Floyd Mayweather in 2013.
The Mexican is the bookies favourite to win the approaching fight.
