Daniel Dubois Appeals Controversial Loss to Oleksandr Usyk Following ‘Low Blow’ Call

Daniel Dubois' promoter has formally filed an appeal against his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk after a controversial low blow decision. The fight took place in Poland, where the masterful Ukrainian world champion prevailed in nine rounds.

Disputed Low Blow

In the fifth round, Dubois landed a shot to Usyk's midsection, causing him to go down. However, referee Luis Pabon deemed it a low blow. Usyk took full advantage of the five minutes allowed to recover, but opinions were divided on whether the shot was indeed low or not.

Formal Appeal to WBA

Dubois and his promoter Frank Warren were left heartbroken and fuming over the result. They have now formally appealed to the WBA, with Warren calling for the bout to be declared a no contest and requesting a rematch. Warren passionately argued that Dubois was unjustly denied his rightful status as the unified world heavyweight champion. The appeal also claims that Usyk would not have been able to get up from Dubois' body shot if it had not been ruled a low blow.

Accusations and Response

Dubois was knocked down twice before failing to beat the referee's count, which led to accusations of quitting. However, the devastated challenger spoke out in the ring after the loss, insisting that he had been robbed of a world title. He expressed his frustration by saying, "I think that landed and I've been cheated out of victory tonight. What else can I say?"
