Deontay Wilder Reveals Near Retirement Due to Tyson Fury Defeats and Fatherhood

Almost Drove Him to Retire

Heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder has opened up about the toll that his back-to-back defeats to Tyson Fury took on him, revealing that he considered retiring from the sport. The 38-year-old, who stands at 6ft 7in, admitted that the losses sent him into a worrying spiral and made him contemplate focusing on raising his eight children.

The Devout Son of a Preacher

Wilder's journey from a former Budweiser delivery driver to a boxing superstar is a rags-to-riches tale. He initially turned to boxing to support his daughter Naieya, who was born with spina bifida in 2005. However, the defeats to Fury shook him to his core, both personally and professionally.

Enjoying Family Time

Despite the difficulties he faced, Wilder now finds solace in spending more time with his children. He expressed his joy at being able to be more involved in their lives, taking them on trips and going on adventures together. The experience has made him appreciate the importance of family even more.

A Growing Brood

Interestingly, Wilder's desire for a large family is still strong. Despite already having eight children, he revealed that he wants four more. While he jokingly mentioned wanting a total of 50 children, he acknowledged that his wife is the only woman for him.

Looking Ahead to the Future

Wilder is now focused on his upcoming fight against Joseph Parker, which could potentially lead to a highly anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua on March 9. He believes that Joshua's options for opponents are running thin and that a bout between them is inevitable.

"The time is near and he better get ready – because management and promoters are not going to be able to stop this," Wilder said, referring to a future fight with Joshua.

It seems that Wilder's determination and love for his family have given him a renewed sense of purpose in both his personal and professional life. Fans will be eagerly awaiting his next moves in the boxing realm.
