Deontay Wilder Teases MMA Career Amidst Stalled Talks with Anthony Joshua

Former Heavyweight Champion Considers Move to the Cage

Deontay Wilder, the former WBC heavyweight world champion, has hinted at a potential career change, expressing interest in pursuing both boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). With talks for a highly anticipated fight against Anthony Joshua at a standstill, Wilder sees the possibility of joining the UFC as a way to keep his competitive spirit alive.

Wilder's UFC Aspirations

During an interview with Blue Blood Sports TV, Wilder shared his thoughts on venturing into MMA. He stated, "I'm thinking about doing both, UFC and boxing. To keep the activity alive and keep it going." Wilder believes that he could be a formidable force in the octagon, remarking, "I'll be a dangerous man in the UFC, bro. With those four-ounce gloves? I broke the f***ing hitting bag machine with those four-ounce gloves on. That was some real stuff."

Expressing his desire to showcase his abilities and talent, Wilder added, "I could see myself in [the UFC]. I think I want to tie it to the competitive side of me, wanting to do both. Get in there and just show the ability and talent of what I could do. I don't think there's anything cooler than being a champion in both. Have the titles at the same time, too."

Wilder Joins a Select Group

If Wilder were to make the leap into MMA, he would join a small group of boxers who have transitioned to the octagon. One notable example is boxing legend James Toney, who faced UFC star Randy Couture in a one-sided bout. Despite Toney's struggles, UFC president Dana White did not dismiss the possibility of Wilder entering the world of MMA. White commented, "It's interesting, you know what I mean? You never see this s*** happening. You never see the boxers going, 'I want to come over there and fight in the UFC.' So we'll see what happens."

As Wilder explores his options in the combat sports realm, fans eagerly await any updates on his potential crossover to MMA and the resolution of the Joshua fight negotiations.
