Deontay Wilder to learn Tyson Fury trilogy fate in May and could ‘claim for damages’ says legendary promoter Bob Arum

DEONTAY WILDER will find out in May whether he is entitled to a third fight with Tyson Fury, according to promoter Bob Arum.

After being beaten by the Gypsy King in February of last year, the American’s contractual right to a trilogy clash appeared to go up in smoke when Fury’s team claimed the clause for a rematch had expired.

Wilder has now gone to court in a bid to get Fury back in the ring, but the Brit’s promoter Arum insists it will NOT put an all-British dust-up with Anthony Joshua under threat.

Speaking to Barbershop Conversations, he said: “That is in arbitration, and the arbitrator will decide.

When asked whether it will put a Joshua-Fury bout on hold, he added: “No, really and truly, nobody anticipates that there’ll be an injunction. At worst, there might be a claim for damages.

“I think it was scheduled that we’d finally get a determination sometime in May. I can’t go into that.”

Wilder has made numerous outlandish excuses since being beaten by Fury more than a year ago.

A comeback fight for The Bronze Bomber does not appear to be on the horizon as he continues to remain relatively quiet.

But promoter Eddie Hearn called on Wilder to fight Dillian Whyte after his win at the weekend.

The Body Snatcher stopped Alexander Povetkin inside four rounds with a statement display in Gibraltar.

Fury and Joshua are set collide in the biggest fight in British boxing history

And Hearn is now calling for Whyte to get a shot at Wilder – a clash the Brit has wanted for several years.

The Essex-based promoter said: “I’d like to see him [Whyte] box quickly again in the summer, maybe go over to the States and have a fight over there.

“We called for the Deontay Wilder fight for a long, long time. [Wilder] actually DM’d Dillian Whyte and said I will never, ever give you that fight.

“And now he got knocked out and he’s calling for the fight with Dillian Whyte.

“For me that’s a stadium fight, that’s a colossal fight. I’d like to get him back out quickly, maybe to the States for a big fight.”
