Deontay Wilder will ‘most likely’ fight Andy Ruiz Jr next but ‘mystery’ opponent is still in frame

DEONTAY WILDER’S next fight will be against Andy Ruiz Jr or a “mystery opponent”, his trainer Malik Scott has confirmed.

The Bronze Bomber made his return to the ring by breezing past Robert Helenius with a first round knockout in October.

Deontay Wilder’s next opponent hasn’t been confirmed

His trainer Malik Scott said it could be Andy Ruiz Jr

The bout was Wilder’s first since brutally losing his trilogy fight to Tyson Fury 12 months earlier.

But his next opponent hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Promoter Eddie Hearn recently held talks over a potential clash between Wilder and Anthony Joshua.

But the long-awaited grudge match is not going to happen just yet.

That’s because Scott revealed that AJ is out of the question and it’s now down to Ruiz Jr and an unnamed fighter.

He told Best Sports Betting: “It’s down to the mystery opponent and Andy Ruiz Jr.

“Since AJ had made up his mind and does not want to fight Deontay right now, we’re down to Andy Ruiz and the mystery guy.

“The mystery fighter is not as guaranteed to happen as the Ruiz fight.

“If you’re looking at it from the business perspective, it’s most likely going to be the mandatory shot, Ruiz.

“It’s looking like Ruiz, but in this game there’s no telling as Deontay is big-time boxing. When you’re big-time boxing, and as sad or as unfortunate it may sound to some people, mandatories don’t mean nothing.

“Fighters have stepped aside to make big, big fights happen.

“This goes on in boxing, it’s what the fans want or what makes business sense for the fighters and their team.

“It’s likely to be Ruiz but if not there are other negotiations going on as well.”

When asked about a potential timeframe for Wilder’s next fight, Scott added: “We could be going in March or early April but it really depends.

“The only thing I can say at the moment is Ruiz is mandated but Deontay is big-time boxing.

“When you have a big-time boxer like Deontay and a mandatory going on at the same time – and there’s another bigger fighter – step a side happens some time, you never know.

“Business is willing to be made to make bigger fights happen.”

  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Moving your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven types: Left Hook (right hook), Right Hook (uppercut), Cross (cross), Straight, Overhand, Underhand. Each punch is different. Some punches require greater strength than others. A strong uppercut for example requires a lot of force. On the other hand, a straight punch requires less power but it is faster than other punches.

There are also various punching combinations. These are combinations of punches which work together to achieve a goal. A combination may contain several parts. A left hook followed with a right-cross will cause injury to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

A boxer must use his legs to defend against kicks. He raises his leg when he is hit with a kick and then moves away from the opponent. To avoid being kicked in the side, he bends down if the attacker attacks from the front. He will block the kick with his foot if the attack is coming from behind.

Elbows

Because they cause great pain, elbow strikes are extremely effective. An elbow strike can be delivered either directly or indirectly. Directly means that you hit your opponent with your forearm while indirectly means that you hit him with another part of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. To do this, they raise their fists higher than their heads and move their arms in the direction that the attack is coming. Then they make contact with the attacker’s fist.

Knees

To absorb the impact of a punch to the stomach, abdomen, or chest, boxers should bend their knees. Knee strikes can be used to defend yourself.

Feet

Boxers should respond to being attacked by their opponent by standing back and delivering counter-attacks. This way, he can gain distance between himself and his opponent. Also, boxers must maintain their balance while delivering counter-attacks.

Stances

Boxing effectively requires a boxer to have a good stance. How he defends his self will depend on how he stances. It defines where he faces his opponent and how he positions his body. There are many stances available to boxers. Here are some of the more popular ones:

  • A low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Move your body

A boxer must be able to move around his opponent in order to win a fight. This means changing your speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. You can rotate at different speeds depending upon the punch.

Combinations

The timing of each punch will determine the effectiveness and efficiency of a combination. A combination is good if it starts with a strong punch then ends with a weaker one.

Spare parts

Sparring is an exercise session to improve boxing skills. During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. Sparring, in conclusion, is about learning how to fight and not getting hurt.

In conclusion, learning to box requires dedication and patience. To become a better boxer, you must train hard and for a long time.
