DEONTAY WILDER’S trainer Malik Scott LOST his comeback fight after more than five years out the ring after he lost to MMA legend Sergei Kharitonov.

Scott, 41, had not stepped into the ring since his loss to Luis Ortiz back in November 2016.

Kharitonov got the better of Scott over six rounds

Scott was dropped in the second round on his way to a decision loss

And he failed to return to winning ways against Kharitonov as he was beaten by unanimous decision following their six-round bout in Belarus.

Both men hit the deck during the fight, but it was Kharitonov who had his hand raised after it went to the judges.

Scott trained former world heavyweight champion Wilder for his 11th round knockout loss to Tyson Fury back in October of last year.

He has also been a sparring partner for the hard-hitting Alabama heavyweight and was once an opponent of his, losing to Wilder via first round KO in 2014.

Yet despite losing to Russian Kharitonov – who holds a 34-9 record in MMA – Scott remained upbeat about his performance.

Speaking on Instagram, he said: “Felt good being back under the lights last night.

“It’s been almost seven since the last time I gloved up. It’s been four years since the last time I did some serious sparring.

“When you’re always busy teaching the craft and learning the craft, it keeps you in some kind of good physical shape.

“Wins, losses, disappointments, etc. I’m grateful for every experience and lesson that comes from this noble art.”

Meanwhile, Wilder’s future remains up in the air as he continues to stay quiet following the loss to Fury.

The American had been linked with a fight against Anthony Joshua before Oleksandr Usyk confirmed he was training for the rematch against AJ.

And Wilder’s nemesis Fury is preparing for a defence of his WBC title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium next month.
