Dillian Whyte FAILS to get Tyson Fury world title fight sanctioned by WBC in another big blow to mandatory challenger

, Dillian Whyte FAILS to get Tyson Fury world title fight sanctioned by WBC in another big blow to mandatory challenger

THE WBC have sensationally FAILED to grant Dillian Whyte a long overdue world title shot against Tyson Fury.

With Anthony Joshua having to rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, it seemed Fury would next have to defend his title against Whyte.

Tyson Fury has not yet been mandated to fight fellow Brit Whyte

But SunSport understands that the WBC have FAILED to pass a resolution finally giving the Londoner his big chance.

It could now be ‘months’ before the mandatory challenger for Fury’s belt is ratified – and the Gypsy King is desperate for a fight early next year having only had one in 21 months.

The WBC held a convention in Mexico to discuss all things boxing – and the next big heavyweight scrap was hot on the agenda.

Whyte, who spent over 1,000 days as mandatory challenger when Deontay Wilder had the belt, reclaimed that position after avenging a shock KO loss to Alexander Povetkin.

But it appears there are yet MORE hurdles for the Bodysnatcher to jump over.

Whyte is currently involved in an ongoing legal case against the WBC, with the Brit fuming that he continues to be overlooked.

And now the body, headed up by Mauricio Sulaiman, have decided to let an independent arbitrator look into the mandatory position.

Boxing fans were left fuming after the Battle of Britain between Fury and Joshua for ‘all the belts’ fell by the wayside thanks to Usyk’s shock win.

The Ukrainian came over to London to easily outpoint AJ and snatch the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight straps.

The two will now rematch in March – leaving Fury looking elsewhere for his next opponent.

It was widely believed that would be Whyte – with the 33-year-old Londoner back in the mandatory slot after his impressive KO revenge win against Povetkin – in March or April next year.

However it seems years of vocal criticism of the WBC has thrown a spanner in Whyte’s hopes for that world title chance.

Whyte was recently forced to pull out of his fight against Otto Wallin with a shoulder injury.

The Swede has previously fought Fury, taking the undefeated Morecambe man to points but putting on an impressive show, leaving the Gypsy King needing 47 stitches after a bloody war.

Whyte has previously revealed that he believes Fury could swerve him and hang up his gloves.

The Brixton brawler said: “The Tyson Fury fight is a fight that I wanted, it’s a fight I tried to get before.

“[It was] Mandated for belts and it didn’t happen. And fortunately for me now, it seems like it’s gonna go ahead.

“But you can never bank on anything Tyson Fury says.

“Because he might say, ‘You know what I’ve had enough I don’t want to fight anymore.’ Or he might say, ‘I need a longer rest.’

“He’s had three hard fights with Deontay Wilder. We don’t know how much they have taken out of him.

“So we’ll just have to wait and see.”
