TEENAGE boxing prodigy Donovan Garcia has died aged just 15.

The rising star from Colorado tragically passed away after sustaining injuries in a car crash, his family confirmed.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by his cousin Rosmina to offer support for Garcia’s family – with more than £4,000 donated.

The major road accident on January 11 left the youngster battling for his life in hospital with severe brain injuries.

However, he sadly died six days later on January 17 after his health declined.

His heartbroken family said: “Donovan fought his biggest battle and went seven rounds, but he was tired.

“His family wants everyone to know that he is at peace and they are at peace with God’s will.

“Thank you everyone for the continued prayers, support, and love. Donovan’s memory and legacy will live on forever.”

A family obituary added: “Donovan was loved by the boxing community and many more.

“Boxing was his passion and he won many championships.

“Donovan has a heart of gold and put everyone before himself.

“Donovan will be greatly missed by all.”

Garcia earned several honours in his amateur boxing career, including the prestigious 2019 Golden Gloves, Silver Gloves State Champion and Junior Olympics State Champion.

Several messages of support have been posted on the GoFundMe page.

One friend wrote: “Don was more a brother than friend to me, showed me what loyalty and honesty really means and to stick with your people even through the worst. I miss you bro.”

Another said: “I’m so sorry for your loss, 15 is way too young to go. My heart is with the family.”

And one boxing official commented: “My deepest sympathies to all of Donovan’s family and friends.

“I had the privilege of officiating several of his boxing events. He always conducted himself with great charisma, class and skills.”
