EDDIE HEARN has declared that Tyson Fury’s trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder was never going to take place this month.

The Gypsy King was set to defend his WBC heavyweight title against the Bronze Bomber on July 24, only for the unbeaten Mancunian to test positive for coronavirus.

Fury‘s third dust-up against his American rival is now expected to take place in October.

And a potential undisputed match-up against English compatriot Anthony Joshua will now not happen until early 2022.

Matchroom promoter Hearn has claimed that ‘disastrous’ ticket sales and no hype in Fury’s meeting with Wilder may have played a factor in it being postponed.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, he said: “I just don’t feel that a supposed megafight like that, and it’s a big fight, just flicks the switch with seven or eight weeks to go and just says ‘this is the day we’re going’.

“When you know the business, there’s too many issues. So, there was no broadcaster in the UK announced. You know he has a contract with BT? They never announced the fight.

“They sold no tickets. Basically, you could you could go online and check.

“I don’t know whether it was 25 per cent or 30 per cent of the tickets have been sold but that’s disastrous.

“There was no hype. This was going to do very, very poor pay per view numbers.”

Fury, 32, has yet to issue a statement on the delay of his trilogy fight against the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist.

But his co-promoter Frank Warren told BT Sport: “It’s looking some time in October, which is a great shame it’s been postponed, but it is what it is.

“Unfortunately, they in the camp and himself got tested positive for Covid. There’s nothing we can do about it.

“It’s the times we live in, so the fight is postponed. Pushed back.

“Very frustrating. Really frustrating for Tyson. By the time he gets into the ring, he will have been out for nearly 20 months. That’s a long, long time.”
