Eddie Hearn says he will try to get Neil Diamond to perform ‘Sweet Caroline’ at Fight Camp or Joshua vs Usyk

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S showdown with Oleksandr Usyk could be set to include a special performance by Neil Diamond.

The fight was finally confirmed last night as a 60,000 sell-out for September 25 at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

With British boxing still reeling from AJ vs Tyson Fury collapsing, the WBA, IBF and WBO king has managed to lift the spirits with a mandatory defence against the Ukraine icon.

Now the British boxer’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed he is reaching out to try and get the musician to perform his hit single ‘Sweet Caroline’ to the live crowd in attendance.

And if he cannot get him to sing live in North London he will try to get the American to provide a rendition in Joshua’s fight camp instead, according to IFL TV.

The much-loved anthem is a big part of boxing events in this country.

It was also adopted by England supporters over the past month at Euro 2020.

Joshua was already a huge fan of the tune, explaining last year: “It doesn’t matter where you go or what country you fight in, from London to Saudi Arabia, Sweet Caroline is one of the most recognised boxing anthems.

“It has really grown with the sport and is a large part of it.”

AJ even asked a New York restaurant to play the track during a surprise birthday celebration for his publicist Andy Bell last year.

The 31-year-old won Olympic super-heavyweight gold at London 2012 the day after Usyk, now 34, won the same medal in the heavyweight division.

Usyk went on to rule the 14st 4lbs cruiserweight division as undisputed champion and has now enjoyed two warm-up fights in the blue-riband ranks.

Now the WBO has ordered 24-1 AJ to face the undefeated southpaw after his unification scrap with Fury collapsed.
