FLOYD MAYWEATHER took credit for Mike Tyson’s comeback against Roy Jones Jr – insisting he is the “pioneer” of exhibition bouts.

Tyson, 54, will fight for the first time in 15 years after signing to box former four-division champion Jones, 51, over eight rounds on September 12.

But the pay-per-view spectacle comes two years after Mayweather, 43, made £7million for taking out featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition in Tokyo.

Asked by rapper Fat Joe his opinion on Tyson’s sensational ring return, ‘Money’ responded only by making the occasion a testament to him.

He said: “I think that we seem to forget about who’s the pioneer about making exhibition bouts huge.”

Mayweather further distanced himself from the fight by sitting on the fence as he failed to predict a winner.

He explained: “I mean, I think it’s going to be very interesting, you know?

“I’m not here to say Tyson’s going to win, I’m not here to say Roy’s going to win,’ he said.

“And I’m pretty sure it’s going to be entertaining. I’m pretty sure I’m going to watch it, absolutely.

“I don’t think I can go because I don’t think there’s going to be an audience at that particular time, but may the best man win.”

As well as watching the box office bonanza, Mayweather himself is due to get back into the business of money-spinning exhibitions.

SunSport revealed the multimillionaire has held talks with MMA promotion RIZIN to once again fight on one of their events.

Reports in Japan have suggested Mayweather is lined up to face former super-featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama, 40, who retired in 2016.

But amid the coronavirus pandemic, the unbeaten legend is unable to travel to Tokyo to make his return to the ring.
