How Floyd Mayweather has raked in more than £110MILLION in three exhibition fights ahead of Mikuru Asakura bout

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has lived up to his “Money” nickname even into retirement.

The boxing legend officially hung up his gloves as a professional in 2017 after beating UFC legend Conor McGregor, 34, in a farewell fight.

Although, it has since proven that money-spinning night in Las Vegas was not the last time fans saw Mayweather, 45, in the ring.

And they will not have to wait long to see another boxing cameo from the American, who faces MMA star Mikuru Asakura, 29, over the weekend.

Here, SunSport breaks down the amount Mayweather – who claims to have already made £1BILLION – earned through non-sanctioned bouts.

Tenshin Nasukawa, December 2018

Mayweather first returned in a New Year’s Eve bout against Japanese kickboxing champion Nasukawa, 24, promoted by RIZIN.

But the bout only lasted one round as Nasukawa was floored a hat-trick of times before being stopped and left in tears.

Beforehand, Mayweather boasted of making $9m (£8m) for the spectacle, which only lasted 139 seconds.

He posted online: “What if I told you I was making $9,000,000 for 9 minutes of sparring in Tokyo, Japan — would you do the same if you were me? I like to call it a 9-minute walk thru.”

Logan Paul, June 2021

Mayweather took his time but was back one again last summer, in perhaps his most daring pay-per-view of all time.

He faced YouTuber Logan Paul – who had only boxed twice but weighed TWO STONE more – in an eight-round exhibition.

And much to the surprise, Paul survived until the final bell in a bout which sold over 1m PPVs at $50, generating $50m (£44m).

Mayweather, who promoted the fight and takes a box office cut, claimed he also made $30m (£26.4m) on his short sponsors alone.

But he claimed before and after the fight that he was earning $100m (£88m) for what he dubbed a “legalised bank robbery”.

Don Moore, May 2022

With Mayweather already claiming to have made nearly £100m through exhibitions, he took his business to the Middle East this year.

He was set to box ex-sparring partner Don Moore on a hotel HELIPAD in Dubai, although the death of the UAE President saw it axed.

Mayweather instead dominated Moore over eight rounds in Abu Dhabi a week later, in what was his latest fight to date.

Unusually, the Hall of Famer did not disclose his purse, but his coach Gerald Tucker said on Instagram it would at least $10m (£8.8m).

Mikuru Asakura, September 2022

With his total income from exhibitions totalling almost £110m at this point, according to the man himself, Mayweather is in no mood to let up.

He faces Asakura over three rounds at the Saitama Super Arena, again promoted by RIZIN.

And Mayweather is also confirmed for ANOTHER exhibition on November 13, heading back to Dubai.

He is in talks with YouTuber Deji, commonly known KSI’s brother as well as a rematch with McGregor.

Here are some basic skills in boxing

How to box effectively

Boxing is one the most well-known sports in the world. It involves two people who attempt to knock each other out of their heads. The rules of boxing vary from country to country. There are three main types of boxing: Amateur boxing, Professional boxing, and Olympic boxing.

Amateur boxing usually takes place at school, college and university. This type includes sparring sessions using padded gloves, but without protection. Amateur boxing competitions typically last for three rounds, each lasting five minutes. Amateur boxing can be done in many styles, including Kickboxing and Muay Thai, Taekwondo or Karate, Judo, Wrestling, and Muay Thai.

Boxing is often practiced in gyms or clubs. They are equipped with protective equipment including a mouthpiece and nose guard, shinguards as well as elbow pads, knee pads. Waist belts and groin protectors. Professional boxing contests last six rounds and last for four minutes each. There are many types of professional boxing. These include Boxing (MMA), Kickboxing (Mixed Martial Arts), Muay Thai and Taekwondo.

Olympic boxing is done at the Olympics. Boxers are required to wear international standards-compliant protective gear. The eight rounds last three minutes each and are held over eight rounds. Olympic boxing can be divided into two types: Light Flyweight (Heavyweight) and Heavyweight (Light Flyweight).

The basics of boxing are:

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Movement of the body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches require more strength than others. For example, an uppercut requires great force. However, a straight punch is much more powerful and faster than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations of punches which work together to achieve a goal. An entire combination could have several parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer protects himself by using his body. He uses his arms, legs, elbows, knees, knees, and feet to do this.

Legs

To defend against kicks, a boxer should use his legs. He raises his leg when he is hit with a kick and then moves away from the opponent. If the attacker is coming from the front, he will bend at the knees to avoid getting kicked on either side. If the attack is from the side, he will bend his knees to avoid being kicked on the side.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very powerful because they inflict great pain. An elbow strike can be delivered either directly or indirectly. Directly means you hit your opponent directly with your forearm. While indirectly, it means you hit him with another section of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. Boxers raise their fists to block incoming blows and then move in the direction of the attacker’s attack. They then make contact with their attacker’s fist.

Knees

Boxers who are subject to a punch to their stomachs, abdomens, or chests should bend at the knees to absorb the impact. Knee strikes can be used to defend yourself.

Feet

A boxer should not be afraid to respond to an attack. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

In order to box effectively, a boxer needs to establish a stance. The way he defends him will be dictated by his stance. It determines his position and the direction he will face. There are many positions that boxers can adopt. These are some of our most favorite:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

A boxer must change his position, speed and rhythm in order to win the fight. This involves changing position, speed and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. Depending on the type and size of punch, the speed at which the rotation takes place varies.

Combinations

The timing of each punch will determine the effectiveness and efficiency of a combination. A good combination starts with a strong punch and ends with a weak one.

Spare parts

Sparring is a practice session designed to improve boxing skills . During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. Sparring, in conclusion, is about learning how to fight and not getting hurt.

Learning to box takes dedication and patience. To become a better fighter, you have to train hard and continue to work.
