I had a sex ban before all of my fights, it helped me punch harder because women weaken legs claims Carl Froch

CARL FROCH followed the advice of Rocky Balboa’s fictional trainer Mickey Goldmill during his career – by banning sex while in training.

The old boxing myth suggests avoiding sex builds up testosterone, despite studies debunking the theory.

Rachael Froch admitted she struggled with Carl’s sex ban

During a famous Rocky scene, his coach Mickey tells Balboa: “Listen kid, you lay off that pet shop dame. Women weaken legs!”

The advice was good enough for the beloved Hollywood character to listen to and apparently ex-world champion Froch felt the same.

Opening up about his sex ban, he told OLBG: “Women weaken legs! Old Mickey quote from Rocky and it’s true. Well I think so anyway!”

Froch, now 45, retired in 2014 after knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 fans in their Wembley rematch.

And his model Rachael had to endure a period of not sleeping with her husband.

She said at the time: “The sex ban is so hard for me – but Carl tells me he isn’t that bothered because he’s exhausted and it’s the last thing on his mind.

“After such a long wait it’s really good to have our sex life back to normal and to have that closeness again, to be able to have sex like a normal young couple.”

Froch has been happy to stay out of boxing since his retirement but does pitch in with the occasional punditry work.

Although he teased a comeback after being called out by YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul, 26, earlier in the year.

Paul went on to lose to Tommy Fury, 24, but Froch admitted he would still consider the fight if the price is right.

He said: “I would always be interested in fighting someone who can’t fight like Jake Paul. It’s like someone giving you a suitcase full of money – you won’t say no.

“I would train for it, I stay in the gym anyway and keep myself in good shape. Right now I am 45 and I retired at 36-37.

“There is a reason that I retired as after a certain age, the weight cut becomes way too difficult. I wouldn’t make the weight for Jake Paul – I would be 14 stone.

“If a fight was on the cards – which it isn’t because Paul realised he can’t fight after losing to Tommy Fury and he wasn’t even British level at the time, then I would fight him because like I said before it is easy money.”

The basic skills of boxing are:

  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • The body moves
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven types of punches available: Left Hook and Right Hook, Cross, Cross, Straight, Underhand, Overhand, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, and Overhand. Each punch is unique. Some punches are more powerful than others. An uppercut, for instance, requires tremendous strength. A straight punch, on the other hand requires less power and is quicker than other punches.

There are also many combinations. These are combinations of punches which work together to achieve a goal. A combination may contain several parts. For example, a left hook followed by a right cross will cause damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

To defend himself from being attacked, a boxer uses his entire body. He does this by using his legs.

Legs

Boxers should use the legs to protect themselves against kicks. After receiving a kick, he will raise his leg and move away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked on his side, he will bend his knees if the attack is from the front. He will block the kick with his foot if the attack is coming from behind.

Elbows

Because they cause great pain, elbow strikes are extremely effective. An elbow strike can be delivered directly or indirectly. Directly refers to hitting your opponent with the forearm, while indirect means you hit him using another part of your arms.

Hands

Boxers use their arms to stop incoming blows. To do so, they raise their fists above their head and move them towards the direction of the attack. Then they make contact with the attacker’s fist.

Knees

Boxers who are subject to a punch to their stomachs, abdomens, or chests should bend at the knees to absorb the impact. Defense purposes are often served by knee strikes.

Feet

A boxer should take control of an attack and respond with counter-attacks. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. In addition, when delivering a counter-attack, a boxer should keep his balance.

Stances

To box effectively, a boxer must establish a stance. His stance determines how he defends himself. It defines where he faces his opponent and how he positions his body. Boxers have many options for stances. These are some of our most favorite:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Move your body

To win a fight, a fighter must move around the opponent. This includes changing speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Combinations

The timing of each punch determines the effectiveness of a combination. A combination of strong and weak punches will produce a good result.

Spares

Sparring is a form of boxing that aims to improve your skills. Boxers learn to train their mind and bodies during sparring sessions. The purpose of sparring is, in short, to learn how fight and not get hurt.

To sum it all, boxing requires patience and dedication. Boxing is a sport that requires dedication and perseverance.
