Iconic promoter Don King wants Tyson Fury to fight his last heavyweight hopeful Trevor Bryan in front of 80,000 UK fans

LEGENDARY promoter Don King wants his last heavyweight hopeful Trevor Bryan to fight Tyson Fury in front of 80,000 British fans.

The Hall of Fame veteran once had the tightest hold on the blue ribband division, working with the likes of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.

But now aged 90 and in his sixth decade in the sport, King is reduced to having only unbeaten American Bryan in his once-famous stable.

Nevertheless, the controversial matchmaker is eyeing heavyweight domination again, and wants to go right to the top.

In an exclusive interview with SunSport, King said: “I do see Trevor and Tyson Fury fighting, because that would give both an opportunity.

“Tyson to defend what he has already achieved and accomplished and for Trevor to get a chance for greatness.

“That would be an irresistible force against an immovable object and something has got to give. And give it will.

“We can do it over there in the UK with 80,000 watching Trevor take that title from Tyson Fury, oh man wouldn’t that be exciting?”

In King’s colourful career, he had a hand in some of the greatest fights of all time, including Ali’s historic 1974 ‘Rumble in The Jungle’ with George Foreman.

But the outspoken American, who spent three years and eleven months in prison for a 1967 voluntary manslaughter charge, was also embroiled in several lawsuits.

Tyson, Ali, Larry Holmes, and Tim Witherspoon were among the names to have sued him over money disputes.

But King has remained one of the most powerful men in the sport and returned to promoting in January, with Bryan, 32, in a headline with over unknown Jonathan Guidry, also 32.

King hailed Fury, 33, for his heroic comeback story, having beaten Wladimir Klitschko, now 45, in 2015 only to vacate the belts a year later.

But the Gypsy King overcame his battle with depression and substance abuse, returning to the ring in 2018 and only two years later reigning as champ again.

King said: “I really love Tyson Fury, because Tyson Fury is an example of what I appreciate; you get knocked down, you get back up and get in again.

“Tyson Fury never lost his title, he got in a disparaging situation, but he proved you can and deal with what is real.

“What he did was he went into a disparaging situation, but he came back and now he’s at the top of the heap in the heavyweight division.

“That shows what a man can do when he has faith, when he has commitment and determination.

“Thank you Tyson Fury for exemplifying what I’ve been saying all along, if you get knocked down, get back up, dust yourself off and get back in the game.”
