How to box efficiently

Boxing is the most loved sport in the world. It is a fight between two opponents. There are different rules for boxing, and they vary from one country to the next. In general, there are three types of boxing; Amateur, Professional and Olympic boxing.

Amateur boxing can be practiced at school or college. This type of boxing includes sparring sessions with padded gloves and without any protection. The basics of boxing are:

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Movement of the body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spares

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch is different. Some punches are more powerful than others. An example of this is an uppercut, which requires tremendous force. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations of punches which work together to achieve a goal. One combination can have many parts. A left hook followed with a right-cross will cause injury to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

To defend himself from being attacked, a boxer uses his entire body. He does this using his legs and arms, elbows as well as hands, knees and feet.

Legs

To defend against kicks, a boxer should use his legs. He raises his leg when he is hit with a kick and then moves away from the opponent. To avoid being kicked on his side, he will bend his knees if the attack is from the front. However, if the attack comes from behind, he stands up straight and blocks the kick with his foot.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very effective because they inflict much pain. An elbow strike can be delivered directly or indirectly. Directly refers to hitting your opponent with the forearm, while indirect means you hit him using another part of your arms.

Hands

Boxers use their arms to stop incoming blows. To do so, they raise their fists above their head and move them towards the direction of the attack. They then make contact with their attacker’s fist.

Knees

To absorb the impact of a punch to the stomach, abdomen, or chest, boxers should bend their knees. A lot of boxers use knee strikes to defend themselves.

Feet

A boxer should take control of an attack and respond with counter-attacks. He can then gain distance from his opponent. Also, boxers must maintain their balance while delivering counter-attacks.

Stances

Boxing is only possible if a boxer has a clear stance. How he defends his self will depend on how he stances. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. Boxers have many options for stances. Here are some of the more popular ones:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Move your body

Boxers must maneuver around their opponent to win fights. This means changing your speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

To increase his punching power, a boxer rotates when he throws a punch. The rotation is done at different speeds depending on the type of punch.

Combinations

The effectiveness of a combination depends on the timing of each individual punch. A combination that works well starts with strong punches and ends with weak ones is a winning combination.

Spare parts

Sparring is a practice session designed to improve boxing skills . Boxers learn to train their mind and bodies during sparring sessions. Sparring, in conclusion, is about learning how to fight and not getting hurt.
