“I held back and kept boxing, and we did 12 rounds.

“He was tired but taking punches and throwing, too.

Here are some basic skills in boxing

How to box effectively

Boxing is one the most well-known sports in the world. It consists of two opponents who try to knock out each other’s head. The rules of boxing vary from country to country. There are three main types of boxing: Amateur boxing, Professional boxing, and Olympic boxing.

Amateur boxing usually takes place at school, college and university. This type includes sparring sessions using padded gloves, but without protection. Amateur boxing matches usually consist of three rounds lasting five minutes each. There are many styles of amateur boxing such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Karate, Judo and Wrestling, among others.

Boxing professionals are usually trained in clubs, gyms, or stadiums. They wear protective equipment such as mouthpiece, nose guard, shin guards, elbow pads, knee pads, waist belt and groin protector. Professional boxing competitions consist of six rounds lasting four minutes each. There are many styles to professional boxing.

Olympic boxing can be seen at the Olympics. Boxers are required to wear international standards-compliant protective gear. The competition lasts approximately three minutes for each round. Only two types of Olympic boxing are available: Light Flyweight or Heavyweight.

Boxing’s fundamental skills are:

  • Techniques for punching
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Movement of the body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven types of punches available: Left Hook and Right Hook, Cross, Cross, Straight, Underhand, Overhand, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, and Overhand. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches need more power than others. A strong uppercut for example requires a lot of force. On the other hand, a straight punch requires less power but it is faster than other punches.

There are many combinations of punches. These are combinations made up of several punches that can be used together to achieve one goal. A combination may contain several parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this using his legs and arms, elbows as well as hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers should use their legs to defend against kicks. After receiving a kick, he will raise his leg and move away from the attacker. If the attacker is coming from the front, he will bend at the knees to avoid getting kicked on either side. If the attack is from the side, he will bend his knees to avoid being kicked on the side.

Elbows

Because elbow strikes inflict a lot of pain, they are very effective. An elbow strike can be delivered either directly or indirectly. Directly means that your opponent is hit with your forearm. However, indirectly means that your elbow strike is delivered with another part or your arm.

Hands

Boxers use their hands as a shield against incoming punches. Boxers raise their fists to block incoming blows and then move in the direction of the attacker’s attack. They then make contact with their attacker’s fist.

Knees

To absorb the impact of a punch to the stomach, abdomen, or chest, boxers should bend their knees. For defense purposes, knee strikes are common.

Feet

A boxer should not be afraid to respond to an attack. He can then gain distance from his opponent. In addition, when delivering a counter-attack, a boxer should keep his balance.

Stances

In order to box effectively, a boxer needs to establish a stance. The way he defends him will be dictated by his stance. It is how he positions himself and where he faces the opponent. There are many positions that boxers can adopt. Here are the most commonly used ones:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

A boxer must change his position, speed and rhythm in order to win the fight. This includes changing speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

A boxer will rotate his arm when he is throwing a punch. You can rotate at different speeds depending upon the punch.

Combinations

Timing of each punch is crucial to the effectiveness of a combination. A combination of strong and weak punches will produce a good result.

Spare parts

Sparring, a boxing practice session, is designed to improve your boxing skills. During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. The purpose of sparring is, in short, to learn how fight and not get hurt.

Learning to box takes dedication and patience. Boxing is a sport that requires dedication and perseverance.
