JAKE PAUL has teased a ‘big announcement’ following his acquisition of shares in the UFC’s parent company.
The YouTuber turned boxer – who has been vocal on the issue of fighter pay in the UFC over the last six months – revealed this week he’d purchased Endeavor stock.
And the former Disney star has alluded to a major announcement being made on Thursday.
On Wednesday night, Paul wrote on his Instagram story: “Big announcement coming tomorrow. @mostvaluablepromotions.”
A few hours later, Paul suggested the announcement would create serious waves.
In response to a tweet from MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, Paul said: “Listen, buddy, all these emojis are cool but you’re gonna s**t your pants tomorrow.”
It’s unclear what power, if any, Paul will have to implement change at Endeavour following his recent purchase of shares.
But the Problem Child – along with his investment partner Geoffrey Woo – hopes to encourage impact and activist hedge fund investors to come on board and make a serious impact.
He said: “I’ve invested in EDR (UFC) stock with my partner @geoffreywoo 2 focus on UFCs ESG standards relating to fighters.
“We believe EDR can drive long-term economic value by increasing UFC fighter pay & providing them healthcare.
“Reaching out to @EngineNo_1 to partner on this ‘endeavour.’”
The focus of Paul’s fury at UFC fighter pay has been the promotion’s president Dana White, whom he’s repeatedly targeted on social media.
Earlier this month, he told White: “You are one of the most selfish capitalistic motherf**kers that I’ve ever seen.
“Everybody else needs you, Dana.
“I’m the only person that doesn’t need you and I don’t give a f**k about you.
“But all these people, all your fighters, all of them, they can’t say s**t cause you’ll just bench them.
“You met your maker, I’m not gonna stop. Welcome to the show, ladies and gentlemen.
“The bottom line, Dana, is that you won’t add health care for your fighters because you don’t give a f**k about them and you’re too much of a greedy b***h to pay your minimum fighter more than $12,000 for risking their lives.
“It’s what a janitor makes. You need to pay them $50,000, Dana. Stop avoiding my points.”
