John Fury says Tyson has already beaten a better fighter than Usyk… and it’s not Wilder or Klitschko

JOHN FURY has named a boxer better than WBC heavyweight champion son, Tyson’s, rival Oleksandr Usyk – and it’s NOT Deontay Wilder or Wladimir Klitschko.

Tyson, 34, has fought a number of top heavyweights in his near 15-year career.

Steve Cunningham dropped Tyson Fury in their 2013 fight – and dad John says he’s better than Usyk

Dad John rates former cruiserweight world champion, Steve Cunningham, at the top of the list.

Tyson made his US debut at Madison Square Garden in New York against Cunningham in 2013.

Despite Tyson having a six inch height advantage and being 44 lbs heavier than Cunningham, the Gypsy King was dropped in Round Two.

Tyson managed to make it back to his feet and went on to stop Cunningham in Round Seven.

Ahead of a potential heavyweight unification fight with WBA, IBF, and WBO champ Usyk, who was also King of the cruiserweights at one point in time like Cunningham, John believes Tyson will have no problems with the Ukrainian.

John told talkSPORT: “Usyk, look at him, he’s just too small, mate.

“He’s a great little boxer, he’s probably a lovely fella, I’ve got nothing against him at all, I like the Ukrainian people, it’s a great country and I wish them all the very best, they’re struggling at the moment with their own problems, but Usyk talking boxing lingo, just too small for Tyson, he’s got nothing to beat him with.

“I thought Steve Cunningham was a better fighter than Usyk back in the day, Cunningham was better than Usyk.

“You know at cruiserweight, Steve Cunningham was unbeatable because he had everything.

“He had speed, he had power, he could move around the ring, great coordination.

“You know, it’s just that boxing has moved on, but not for the better, the guys just seem to be doing all this modern technique, it just looks awful to the eye.

“To me, they’ve got a lot right, but they’ve got a lot wrong as well, but we stick to the old school methods. You know they work.

“I’ve seen Usyk fight Joshua twice, he ain’t beating Tyson him, definitely not.

“I’m not just saying because he’s my own son, but he’s been out there 34 times unbeaten, you know I’ve not been wrong yet, so there you are, Tyson’s the king of the ring.”

Tyson Fury has taken on some of heavyweight’s greats, including Deontay Wilder in a trilogy

Wladimir Klitschko was also beaten by Tyson Fury

Here are the Essential Skills of Boxing

How to box effectively

Boxing is one the most well-known sports in the world. It involves two people who attempt to knock each other out of their heads. Boxing rules vary from one country or another. There are three types generally of boxing: Amateur (Professional) and Olympic (Olympic).

Amateur boxing can be practiced at school or college. This type of boxing allows sparring without protection. Amateur boxing competitions usually last three rounds and last five minutes each. There are many styles of amateur boxing such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Karate, Judo and Wrestling, among others.

Most professional boxing takes place in gyms, clubs, and stadiums. They are protected by protective equipment like a mouthpiece, nose protector, shinguards, elbow pads and knee pads, waist belt, and groin protection. Professional boxing competitions have six rounds that last four minutes each. There are many styles of professional boxing: Boxing, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), Kickboxing and Muay Thai.

Olympic boxing is performed at the Olympics. Boxers are required to wear international standards-compliant protective gear. The eight rounds last three minutes each and are held over eight rounds. There are only two styles of Olympic boxing; Light Flyweight and Heavyweight.

Boxing is based on the following skills:

  • Techniques for punching
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Body movement
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven kinds of punches: Left Hook, Right Hook, Uppercut, Cross, Straight, Overhand and Underhand. Each punch is unique. Some punches require greater strength than others. For example, an uppercut is a powerful punch. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are many combinations that can be used to punch. These are combinations made up of several punches that can be used together to achieve one goal. An entire combination could have several parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer protects himself by using his body. He does this using his legs and arms, elbows as well as hands, knees and feet.

Boxers must use their legs to defend themselves against kicks. If he gets kicked, he raises one leg and turns away from his attacker. To avoid being kicked on the sides, he bends at his knees when the attacker strikes from the front. He will block the kick with his foot if the attack is coming from behind.

Because they inflict pain, elbow strikes can be very effective. You can either deliver an elbow strike directly, or indirectly. Directly, you strike your opponent with your forearm. Indirectly, you hit him with another portion of your arm.

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. Boxers raise their fists to block incoming blows and then move in the direction of the attacker’s attack. Then, they touch the attacker’s hand.

A boxer should bend his knees in order to absorb any blows to his stomach, abdomen, chest or stomach. For defense purposes, knee strikes are common.

When attacked, a boxer should step back and deliver counter-attacks. This way, he can gain distance between himself and his opponent. A boxer must also maintain his balance when responding to an opponent’s counter-attack.

To box effectively, a boxer must establish a stance. The way he defends himself will be determined by his stance. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. Boxers have many options for stances. These are some of our most favorite:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

The Body Movement

To win a fight, a fighter must move around the opponent. This includes changing speed, position and rhythm.

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Timing of each punch is crucial to the effectiveness of a combination. A combination that works well starts with strong punches and ends with weak ones is a winning combination.

Sparring is an exercise session to improve boxing skills. During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. Sparring is a way to learn how to fight without getting hurt.

To sum it all, boxing requires patience and dedication. To be a better boxer you need to train hard.
