Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall 2 is ON as fighters sign on for grudge Glasgow world title rematch in March

JOSH TAYLOR and Jack Catterall will have their hotly anticipated rematch in March next year.

The date is due to be announced imminently but promoter Ben Shalom has confirmed the bout WILL happen.

It will take place almost a year on from their highly controversial bout.

Taylor and Catterall met in Glasgow back on February 26th for the undisputed light welterweight championship.

Defending champion Taylor was declared the winner via split decision – a verdict that caused widespread fury.

Many commentators, experts and viewers felt that Englishman Catterall, the WBO’s mandatory challenger, was the clear winner of the fight.

But instead, the judges awarded the victory to Taylor.

It was a result that handed Catterall the first loss of his career.

Despite the controversial reaction, Taylor insisted he had won the fight, saying “I don’t think there is any need for a rematch.”

Speaking to talkSPORT, promoter Ben Shalom announced both fighters have now officially signed on for the rematch.

He said: “The fight date [in March] is locked in and it’ll be announced in the next week or so.

“It’s imminent and it will be in Glasgow, back at the scene of the crime.

“And I think it could be one of the most significant fights in British boxing for a long time because of what happened.

“Josh Taylor could have gone on to other things, but decided, ‘You know what? I’m gonna put this wrong right.’

“Fair play to him and Jack Catterall gets the opportunity that I think the whole nation feels like he deserves.”

Taylor has since vacated three of the titles he held at the time of the fight, but remains the WBO light welterweight champion.
