Kell Brook says locking himself away from family and friends will see Terence Crawford face ‘best ever’ version

KELL BROOK believes running away from the bright lights and late nights of Sheffield will help crown him king of Sin City.

The Brit, 34, can become a two-time welterweight world champion by beating WBO boss and pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford.

Kell Brook has taken himself away from family, friends and distractions

Ex-IBF champ Brook admits that, like working-class Manchester legend Ricky Hatton, he has enjoyed his hero status at home a bit too much in between fights.

But the father of three has dedicated himself like never before for his Las Vegas shot at three-weight champion Crawford in the early hours of Sunday morning.

And Brook vowed there will be no hangovers after his showdown.

He said: “People have been writing me off and saying that this is an easy fight for Terence.

“But I have taken myself away from my missus, my daughters, all of my family, to get ready for this and push myself in training camp.

“I have no excuses. At home in Sheffield there are plenty of distractions and sometimes I only start tightening up things too close to a fight.

“This time, for Terence, I took myself away as soon as I knew this fight was on so I could knuckle down. I have only done it to myself to be great.

“My mindset is focused on the job and being positive now because of how I feel, compared to how I have felt before previous fights.

How the fighters compare ahead of the huge bout

“I believe Terence is getting the best version of me ever.”

Brook split with lifelong trainer Dominic Ingle and long-term promoter Eddie Hearn for this showdown, helping him keep a lion’s share of his £1.75million windfall.

The ruthless moves cost him his broadcast partnership with Sky Sports and a few friends.

But he now hopes to leave his new frenemies with egg on their faces.

Brook explained: “I am disappointed that the TV coverage isn’t what it should be in the UK.

“I have been with Sky Sports for years. They have seen me become a world champion and star in thrillers.

“I can see certain people doubting me and calling me out, people I know as well. And they are the people making me want to push on and do an extra round in training and do a little bit more in every session.

“I can’t wait to see them after the fight. I cannot wait to see them when I am crowned champion of the world again.”

Crawford is a brilliant switch-hitting fighter, compared to Sugar Ray Leonard by legendary promoter Bob Arum.

The Nebraska ace, 33, travelled to Glasgow to dominate the fighting pride of Scotland, Ricky Burns, in 2014.

He also battered Amir Khan in New York last April.

And Brook believes a shock victory, as unlikely as 8-1 with most bookies, would top the list of greatest wins by Brits abroad.

That would surpass even Lloyd Honeyghan beating Donald Curry and Lennox Lewis vanquishing Evander Holyfield.

He said: “I think this win would be No 1 on that list, because of what I have been through and because Terence is not just a world champion, but the fighter everyone considers to be pound-for-pound No 1.

“But I have done this all my life — this is what I was born to do.”
