Lee McGregor’s fight on Chisora-Parker 2 undercard postponed after dad is run over by lorry and left fighting for life

LEE MCGREGOR’S upcoming title defence has been postponed as his dad was rushed to intensive care after being knocked down by a lorry.

The 24-year-old rushed home to Edinburgh from his Las Vegas training camp to be with his critically ill dad.

Lee McGregor is the European bantamweight champion

The Scot had been due to defend his European bantamweight title against Armenia’s Narek Abgaryan on Saturday’s undercard for the Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker rematch.

But the British champ cited injury and personal reasons for pulling out of the fight.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: “I’ve had a really tough couple of weeks to be honest and my head has been all over the place

“I’ve done some damage to my hand but I’ve tried to just train through the injury. It’s nothing too serious.

“I might have been able to fight but the news of my dad being run over by a lorry and then being put in intensive care fighting for his life was just too much.”

McGregor and Abgaryan are now working on a new date, with the Scot also needing time to recover from the hand problem.

But while he trained through the injury, the news of his dad’s life-threatening condition meant a quick dash home.

McGregor says he is now thankfully on the mend but is still suffering from several broken bones in the accident.

He added: “He is going to be ok and is on the mend but it’s going to be a long, long road to recovery.

“He’s suffered a lot of broken bones but the main thing is he’s alive. I’m glad he is still here to be honest.”
