Manny Pacquiao Jr making boxing debut against legendary dad’s wishes after training with Canelo Alvarez

MANNY PACQUIAO JR will make his amateur debut tonight just a matter of months after his dad’s retirement from boxing.

Following brief training stints with his dad and pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez, Manny Jr sought out the help of his old man’s former head coach Freddie Roach.

But his son Manny Jr will kick off his own career with an amateur fight this weekend


Manny Jr has also taken some pointers from pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez

And the young Filipino is set to take to the ring in San Diego against Andres Rosales.

Wild Card Gym shared a good luck message for Manny Jr with their 62,000 Instagram followers on Friday.

It read: “Wild Card Boxing Trainer Marvin Somodio completes training with Manny Pacquiao Jr.

“He is set for his first amateur boxing match [Saturday].

“Good luck to you and all of Team Pacquiao!”

Manny Jr decided to follow in his dad’s footsteps and try his hand at the sweet science after stints modelling and being a social media influencer.

But his dad wasn’t keen on him carving out a career in the brutal and lonely sport of boxing.

In 2019, the former eight-weight world champion said: “We are really discouraging him [from boxing]

He told Toni Talks: “My boxing career? “My boxing career is already over.

“It’s done because I’ve been in boxing for a long time and my family says that it is enough.

“I just continued [to box] because I’m passionate about this sport.

“I will just support other boxers for us to have a champion again.”
