How to effectively box

Boxing is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is a fight between two opponents. Each country has its own rules. There are three types generally of boxing: Amateur (Professional) and Olympic (Olympic).

Usually amateur boxing competitions consist of three rounds of five minutes each. There are many styles of amateur boxing such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Karate, Judo and Wrestling, among others.

Boxing is based on the following skills:

  • Techniques for punching
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Move your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches require greater strength than others. For example, an uppercut requires great force. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are many combinations of punches. These are combinations of punches that work together to achieve a specific goal. A combination may contain several parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

To defend himself from being attacked, a boxer uses his entire body. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

A boxer must use his legs to defend against kicks. After receiving a kick, he will raise his leg and move away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked on his side, he will bend his knees if the attack is from the front. If the attack comes from behind, however, he can stand straight up and block the kick by his foot.

Elbows

Because elbow strikes inflict a lot of pain, they are very effective. An elbow strike may be delivered directly or in an indirect manner. Directly means you hit your opponent directly with your forearm. While indirectly, it means you hit him with another section of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use their hands to block incoming blows. Boxers use their hands to stop incoming punches. They raise their fists up above their heads and move towards the attack. Then, they touch the attacker’s hand.

Knees

When receiving a blow to the stomach, abdomen or chest, a boxer should bend his knees to absorb the impact. A lot of boxers use knee strikes to defend themselves.

Feet

Boxers should respond to being attacked by their opponent by standing back and delivering counter-attacks. This allows him to put distance between himself, his opponent, and the ring. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

In order to box effectively, a boxer needs to establish a stance. His stance will determine how he defends. It defines where he faces his opponent and how he positions his body. Boxers have many stances to choose from. Here are some of the more popular ones:

  • A low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Move your body

A boxer must be able to move around his opponent in order to win a fight. This involves changing position, speed and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. Depending on the type and size of punch, the speed at which the rotation takes place varies.

Combinations

Timing of each punch is crucial to the effectiveness of a combination. A good combination starts with a strong punch and ends with a weak one.

Spare parts

Sparring, a boxing practice session, is designed to improve your boxing skills. Boxers learn to train their mind and bodies during sparring sessions. Sparring is a way to learn how to fight without getting hurt.

You need to have patience and dedication in order to learn how boxing works. To become a better fighter, you have to train hard and continue to work.
