EDGAR BERLANGA has admitted he tried to BITE Alexis Angulo’s ear during their fight at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theatre last night.
The American defeated Angulo by unanimous decision to extend his unbeaten record to 20-0 within the squared circle.

Super middleweight Berlanga’s win will be remembered for a controversial incident missed by the referee in the seventh round.
The 25-year-old astonishingly appeared to try and bite Angulo’s ear as the pair did battle… something he admitted after the event.
He told ESPN: “He was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him.
“He kept throwing his elbows and pushing it out. I didn’t want to get cut.”

While Tyson was disqualified for his infamous bite on Evander Holyfield, Berlanga managed to get away with the incident.
He likely avoided punishment as he failed to connect with Angulo’s ear, making contact more with the shoulder of his opponent.
Nonetheless, the combat sports world was left unimpressed by Berlanga’s antics.
Promoter Lou DiBella wrote on Twitter: “If you bite your opponent like you’re a rabid dog you should be disqualified.”

Meanwhile, trainer Teddy Atlas commented: “Berlanga’s record is more impressive than his fighting. I’m going back to UFC fights.”
Former super middleweight champion Caleb Truax added: “I scored it 76-74 Berlanga… Both lost 20 points for being awful.”
Truax then added: “Berlanga sucked just a little bit less than Angulo…”
Terence Crawford found it funny, however, tweeting: “Lol he tried to bite him 
”

Fans were generally less impressed, with one scathingly writing: “Berlanga went from impressive, to underwhelming, to disappointing, to embarrassing in 4 fights…. That’s a steep dive…”
Another scolded: “Berlanga is one of the worst and most unimpressive hype jobs I’ve ever seen. He’s got no tools. Just awful.”
