Olympic boxing is practiced at the Olympics. Boxers are required to wear international standards-compliant protective gear. The competition lasts for eight rounds, each lasting three minutes. Only two types of Olympic boxing are available: Light Flyweight or Heavyweight.

Boxing’s fundamental skills are:

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • The body moves
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Sparring

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches require more strength than others. An uppercut, for instance, requires tremendous strength. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are also various punching combinations. These are combinations made up of several punches that can be used together to achieve one goal. A combination may have multiple parts. An example of this is a left hook, followed by a right crossing. This will damage the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

Boxers use their bodies to defend themselves against attack. He does this using his legs and arms, elbows as well as hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers must use their legs to defend themselves against kicks. When he’s hit, he raises his right leg and runs away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked on the sides, he bends at his knees when the attacker strikes from the front. But if the attack comes in the back, he will stand straight and block the kick using his foot.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very powerful because they inflict great pain. You can either deliver an elbow strike directly, or indirectly. Directly means that you hit your opponent with your forearm while indirectly means that you hit him with another part of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. To do this, they raise their fists higher than their heads and move their arms in the direction that the attack is coming. Then, they touch the attacker’s hand.

Knees

Boxers who are subject to a punch to their stomachs, abdomens, or chests should bend at the knees to absorb the impact. Defense purposes are often served by knee strikes.

Feet

If he is being attacked, a boxer must take a step back and counter-attack. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

A boxer must have a stance in order to be effective at boxing. His stance will determine how he defends. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. There are many positions that boxers can adopt. Here are some of the more popular ones:

  • A low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Moving your body

Boxers must maneuver around their opponent to win fights. This includes changing speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

To increase his punching power, a boxer rotates when he throws a punch. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Combinations

The timing of each punch determines the effectiveness of a combination. A combination that works well starts with strong punches and ends with weak ones is a winning combination.

Spare parts

Sparring is a form of boxing that aims to improve your skills. Sparring is a training session that helps a boxer train his mind and body. Sparring, in conclusion, is about learning how to fight and not getting hurt.

In conclusion, learning to box requires dedication and patience. You need to train hard and long in order to become a better boxer.
