Peter Fury warns ‘famous’ Joshua his world titles could ‘slip from him again’ unless he ‘takes chances’ against Pulev

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been warned not to under-estimate Kubrat Pulev in his next world title defence.

In June last year AJ was on the end of one of boxing’s biggest ever shocks when he was KO’d by apparent no-hoper Andy Ruiz Jr.

Anthony Joshua could have his work cut out against wily veteran Kubrat Pulev

Peter Fury, whose son Hughie lost to Kubrat Pulev, has warned Joshua against complacency

The Brit got his revenge six months later however to claim his WBO, WBO, IBF and IBF heavyweight titles back with a one-sided points win.

Joshua will once again be heavy favourite to beat IBF mandatory Pulev, with their original June fight postponed due to coronavirus.

But Peter Fury, who’s son Hughie lost on points to the veteran Bulgarian back in 2018, has warned Joshua he must “take his chances” on fight night.

Speaking to Sky Sports the uncle of WBC champ Tyson said: “He’s got a very good jab. He’s a very underestimated boxer is Pulev. He’s very awkward.

“You’ve got to break him down and AJ will have to take chances in this fight, because he’s not going to just simply be able to land that double jab and right hand on Pulev, no matter how sharp he is.

“AJ has got to take it to him and be explosive, but be clever with it.

“You have to fancy the younger man, but like I said, you can’t put anything past Pulev, because he’s a very cute, professional fighter.

“It’s not a pushover fight this, it’s a serious fight.

“When people are famous in boxing everyone expects them to win, but it’s not the case in this fight.

“This fight is a dangerous fight for him. If he doesn’t keep 100 per cent focused, this fight can slip from him again.”

Hughie Fury was brave in going down to defeat against Pulev, with a cut affecting his tactics.

And uncle Peter believes Joshua could be on a good thing to bring in Hughie for some sparring.

He added: “Hughie would be available to spar if they need any help. Same as anything else,” he said.

“He’s a professional fighter, so if they need any help and Hughie ticks the boxes, then we’ll look at it.”
