Tommy Fury mocked for saying he’s at ‘world championship level’ and Viddal Riley is ‘not a big enough draw’ to fight

TOMMY FURY faced ridicule for stating he is at “world championship level” and that Viddal Riley is “not a big enough draw” to fight him.

Fury is coming off the back of handing Jake Paul defeat in their grudge match in Saudi Arabia in February.

Viddal Riley hit back at Tommy Fury

And he is now lined up for another huge celebrity blockbuster against Paul’s YouTube rival KSI.

But it appears Fury, 24, has no interest in facing fellow 9-0 prospect Riley, once the coach of KSI, 30.

He told Sky Sports: “No disrespect but Viddal’s fighting a lot lower than me.

“Say what you want about opposition but I’m fighting on a world championship level.

“I’m doing millions of pay-per-view buys with all these big names. I’m not going to be foolish and drop down and fight Viddal Riley in York Hall, am I?

“At the end of the day, all due respect to him but he’s not a big enough draw.

“At the end of the day, Viddal, who is he outside of boxing? He’s not really anybody. He’s got no global pulling power. He can’t do any pay-per-views.”

The comment did not go down well with fans, as one said: “Tommy did not say he’s fighting at a world championship level surely.”

Another added: “Tommy is claiming to fight at a world championship level when his hardest fight was Jake Paul.”

Riley, 25, knocked out Anees Taj, 27, later that night and hit back at Fury in a blast of his own.

He responded: “If he doesn’t want to fight, just say he doesn’t want to fight.

“He’s in a sticky position: he’s chosen that side of things, getting paid extremely well. Just say you’re that guy now, say you’re a crossover boxer.

“That’s it, that’s all Tommy has to do. All he has to say is: ‘You know what, I’m a crossover guy now, I don’t really have any interest in the traditional path, I’m not looking to be a traditional pro boxer,’ and I’ll leave him alone.

“But if you’re going to try and blur the lines between the two, then blur the line over here. He doesn’t have to blur the line here.

“He doesn’t have any pull himself anyway. Jake has the pull. KSI has the pull.

“Go check the views on any of his fights when he’s fighting in that realm, and then check mine, and I’ve stayed in this realm and, I would say I have more pull than he does.

“Anees Taj would knock out Tommy Fury. Let’s not play games now. I think Anees Taj would knock out Tommy Fury.

“I’d like to see Tommy prove himself against an opponent like that, and see if he can deal with them. I doubt he can.”

Punching Techniques

There are seven types: Left Hook (right hook), Right Hook (uppercut), Cross (cross), Straight, Overhand, Underhand. Each punch comes with its own technique. Some punches require more strength than others. A strong uppercut for example requires a lot of force. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations which combine several punches in order to achieve a specific goal. One combination can have many parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

Boxers protect themselves by protecting their bodies. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

To defend against kicks, a boxer should use his legs. After receiving a kick, he will raise his leg and move away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked in the side, he bends down if the attacker attacks from the front. If the attack is from the side, he will bend his knees to avoid being kicked on the side.

Elbows

Because elbow strikes inflict a lot of pain, they are very effective. An elbow strike may be delivered directly or in an indirect manner. Directly, you strike your opponent with your forearm. Indirectly, you hit him with another portion of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. They raise their fists high above their heads and point them in the direction of an attack. They then touch the attackers fist.

Knees

When receiving a blow to the stomach, abdomen or chest, a boxer should bend his knees to absorb the impact. Knee strikes can be used to defend yourself.

Feet

If he is being attacked, a boxer must take a step back and counter-attack. This way, he can gain distance between himself and his opponent. A boxer must also maintain his balance when responding to an opponent’s counter-attack.

Stances

A boxer must have a stance in order to be effective at boxing. The way he defends him will be dictated by his stance. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. There are many positions that boxers can adopt. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • A low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

The Body Movement

In order to win a fight, a boxer must move around his opponent. This means changing your speed, position and rhythm.

Rotation

Boxers rotate their arms when they throw a punch. Depending on the type and size of punch, the speed at which the rotation takes place varies.

Combinations

The timing of each individual punch affects the effectiveness or failure of a combination. A combination that is effective starts with a strong punch, and ends with one that is weak.

Spare parts

Sparring, a boxing practice session, is designed to improve your boxing skills. Sparring is a training session that helps a boxer train his mind and body. In conclusion, the purpose of sparring is to learn how to fight and not get hurt.

To sum it all, boxing requires patience and dedication. To be a better boxer you need to train hard.
